    $850/ month. 09 Dbl Cab TRD 4x4 0 down 0% interest for 36 months.

I had cash to pay for it but why not leave that money in the bank to make a little bit of interest when you can do 0% financing with SE Toyota Finance.

I think what i might do is get myself an 05 or 06 put 20% down and sign a 6 year. That way my payments will be low but on the months that i have extra money i can go ahead and pay more. This might also be good insurance as if one month im choked up i can just pay the minimum which shouldnt be so much as im getting a used one. What do you guys think? Im 23 so my insurance is kind of high but not so bad nether an i only have a year left of school, once im done with that i will be able to afford to pay it off pretty quick.

This is an interesting thread. i would like to add my two cents on the economy, and on buying outright verses financing and making payments over time.

I have a fairly secure job, but I don't make much. I am a college instructor, non tenured. In fact, I fall into the poverty level, and if I didn't own my house, I would really be struggling. Three years ago, I started having to make larger repairs on both my 94 toyota truck and my mother's 99 honda, so I decided that I needed a new vehicle soon, but because of my low wages and the economy, I was scared about getting into too much debt, so I started saving. Over the next few years, I saved up the $6000 down payment, and plan to pay another big chunk of the loan off with the money that I get for the honda. I plan to have this taco paid off by next Christmas. Then, if I lose my job or the economy tanks even more and expenses become overwhelming, I at least have the house and the truck and don't have to worry about having either repossessed. ;)

    $860 CAD a month, 3.8% I think. Loan was something around $37,250
48 months. I'd never pay a vehicle in more than 4 years.

Yea that's what I was confused about with his statement.

And no I'm not stacked by any means. Just had a goal and was able to save for it.

As for never financing, I agree that if they're giving you 0% then you might as well take advantage of the free money. But other than that I'd never finance if I wouldn't have to. I'll be buying a boat next year I'll have to finance some of that cost though, but I wanted to have a vehicle paid off before that because I didn't want a boat and car loan. Thankfully I can go after the boat now since I don't have a car payment.

And where does risk factor in my friend? There's got to be something said about the specific risk one takes going the 12 months 0% route, as ANYONE is more likely to miss a payment/not have the money to make the payment at some point during these months. "Same as cash" is not same as cash. If you had just enough cash lying around for that new furniture, and that's ALL the cash you had as far as savings, you probably wouldn't drop it all on that furniture, therefore 0% is NOT "same as cash", because if you actually had the cash, you wouldn't THINK of dropping it all on a specific item. i.e. furniture, a new car, boat, etc...

Yes - I do it with all insurance, health, home, etc. It's what's called being self insured with catastrophic coverage. It does two things 1) allows you to SAVE money (there is a reason that I capitalized it - if you invest it you will have more later) and 2) creates discipline not to have a theoretical mom, dad, US gov't, 'the other guy' pay for things that don't need fixing. Did you ask my opinion of single payer? Oh I'm sorry...

I have a $2,500 deductible on my health. I go to urgent care when I need it. Pay for a physical out of my own pocket when I want more than the 'free' one.

I think high deductibles are great if you do something with the money saved.

I have as well. $1,000 deductibles on both cars. Insurance companies are in business to make money, and they make lots of it, generally. Raising my deductible made my rate go from $80/car/month to $50/car/month giving me $60/more/month to attack my vehicle loans.

I cheated on Step 1 above and saved quite a bit more than the recommended $1,000, so I will be ok if sometime in the future I actually have to fork out a grand for a repair. In under a year and a half I'll save that $1,000 from the cost also if nothing happens to where I need to make a claim.

Also, if damage is less than $1,000, I now have the option/am more inclined to just pay for repairs CASH. Whereas with a lower deductible, you're more likely to choose paying it and getting you "money's worth" right? I mean that's what insurance is for! WRONG! Here's why, and remember, they wouldn't be in business if it weren't a good one...

If I never make a claim on fender benders and things that cost less than $1,000 to repair, then my rate will more than likely stay the same, and in essence: every year and a half I go without a wreck/claim, I'm stuffing $1,000 that would of gone to the insurance company monthly right into my greedy little pocket. Hey! It's my money, and I worked hard for it!

So you gave about 19.7K out the door after taxes on an 07 4x4 Double Up Cab? So if 8% of that is sales tax you bought your 07' for $18,200....

    Nice kill....

They still bring 23-24 grand here in Colorado used and seem to be listed on E-Bay for 22-23 grand as well!!

So I said WTF and bought a new one for $100 over invocie at the 2.9%...My payment is $496.00 and my mods....Aint paid off yet!!

^Completely and totally clueless about what you are talking about...

I paid off my wifes car a few months back...and rolled that into paying some other stuff off. Must pay $421 per month, Do pay $550 (the extra goes towards principle only) Between my wifes car, my car, and our renters insurance it's about 119 a month with $1000 deductibles.

I have a unique situation...so financing doesn't really bother me- I know I will have a job or a fat severance paycheck...so my bills are covered until 2030...or I'll be able to pay ff the truck and all my other bills/debts right away. Because I financed- my wife and I both drive new cars, plus I have my bike and we live pretty comfortably for a pair fo 25 year olds...could make more...but I could make alot less too.

Yeah, but you're not paying the taxes required for MA's 'free' healthcare. You don't even have income tax... yet.
