    What just happened?

    And the 1-GR is tuned for 93 octane, so it's not all smoke and mirrors for the trucks that have it. IIRC the difference is small though, like 3-5 HP

    well... i see an MPG improvement, which could possibly be enough to offset the higher cost of the gas. that's the sole reason. im gonna run a couple more tanks and pull an average. I only got 250 miles per tank with 87.... if the 93 will give me 350-400 per tank, all the better, if this is just a fluke and on the next two tanks it goes back to 250, then ill go back to 87... its just an experiment that dosent cost me much.

    maybe... or it could also be that i just did plugs, all the oils, air filter and such too... i found out that at 100k the truck still had the factory plugs, air filter and gear oil. :eek:

    What altitude are you at? im almost at sea level, so the air here is pretty dense, that could make a difference as well... denser air+higher octane equals more mpg?

    it's not directly related to HP as much as compression in the cylinder
    you might not get more power, but the engine will run better "supposedly"


    but im not an engineer. All I know is gas is a mixture of heptane and octane........
    carbon chains....

    Octane is the resistance to detonation. The higher the compression, the higher the octane needed to prevent detonation. The research I have done on the 4.0 is that it's around a 10hp or so difference on 91-93 octane, and most people have done tests that show the cost per mile is exactly the same, so they prefer to run the higher octane to get the most performance out of the engine.

    Alright so im sure someone in here. My moms car (yukon xl) has some rust on the rear access and me and my dad are gonna take it down to bare metal and respray it. Whats the best paint or liner to cover it with that will be smooth and look some what factory. (we are gonna spray a line across the entire lower back portion) She doesnt want the offroad look cause well its not that kinda truck hahah

    Ehh, I'd say a rust encapsulater paint in a flat black or semi gloss. Like por 15
