One of our customers built this crazy 2014 avalon retrofit for his Z1000. Something similar to what I want to do in my truck, but with two sets of projectors stacked.

    Hey Guys,

These look great on your rides, will be looking to retrofit my headlights soon too. Have a couple of newbie questions though....

Do the shrouds with vents in them rely on an internal halo to pour light out of the vents or is it the HID itself that does that?

The other thing I was wondering is I've seen a couple pictures where people have painted areas behind the HID itself (I've seen both red and blue) and the result is in the daylight without any lights on at all you get either a red or blue reflection in the lens which I thought looked pretty cool. Do you guys know exactly what areas need to get painted to get that result? Apparently this is only seen during daytime with the lights not being used, once you turn the lights on it just looks like a standard HID light.

I guess the last question would be if for example I did that but used a shroud with vents would the light coming from the vents look clear or would they look the colour that had been painted behind the light? I don't want to have the light coming from the shroud red or blue.... my understanding is you can get in some trouble from the police for running active blue or red lights in the front of your vehicle.

    Thanks

The color through vents is given by a halo, you can color the projector, I've done red, blue, and black personally I like red the older styles were easier to paint, the new ones were a bit difficult

Thanks for the info. When you colored the projector what areas did you paint? I saw only one answer to this but it was pretty vague. I imagine everything except the light, lens and reflective bowl?

To this day I've only seen one projector the lens couldn't actually be removed from and that isn't the Mini D2S 3.0. The lens can be removed, but you basically have to pull the lens frame as you slide out the lens to ensure you don't scratch the tip of the lens.

The lens is literally plastic-welded in (a collar behind the lens is plastic welded to the lens holder) in the Audi S5 D3S Projectors:

Hey Andrew, thanks for the quick reply on that. I'll be looking to get an order together soon for this :D Are you shipping when you hit a batch of 10 orders or just sending them out as the orders roll in?

Also curious if you know what the shipping cost would be to send to BC Canada? I'm guessing my location wouldn't qualify for free shipping.

How would a D2S 3.0 35W (either 4300k or 5000k) compare to the light output of the stock headlights on a 12+ tacoma?

Too many to list. See build page. Link in signature

So you did the demon eye mod on your D2S 3.0's?? Did you just paint the shield? What kind of paint did you use? And any pics?

Is there a write up for this work? I'd definitely be interested in making this modification?

Would the projectors work on another vendors HIDs? Tired of the bad glare and annoying other drivers so I am wanting to do a retro but would like to use the ones I have. Not sure if the projectors and TRS HIDs have to be a set in order to work.

Yes they sure will, however the discount is only valid on a complete setup. :)

Just installed mine on a 2014 taco and my passenger side has some wicked rotation to it. The set washer was really tight keeping the projector in place with almost no play. How am I supposed to fix the rotation? I can do up and down and side to side…. no rotation adjustment. Help?
