ah shoot. thanks for the reminder. need to get that ordered and installed before i (sad to say) leave texas in a few weeks.

been crazy the last few weeks. haven't even had time to finish the aux fuel tank install.

 

think i may pick up some airbags for the rear of the truck.

be it now, or after the suspension has been overhauled and swapped out to a sprung under, or 3 link / 4 link, the suspension on this truck will need to be soft for the off road performance i want. that being said, i do tow with it, and man does an off road rear end sag. won't be doing a permanent install with crazy plumbing. jsut toss the air bags on with the fill ports right on the bag. that way, come wheeling time, 6 nuts per side and they're off and ready to wheel.

Skip bolting them down and go with the airbag cups. That way you never have to ubolt anything.

oooooh, that's interesting. i'll have to look into those to see if they would be compatable with my needs as far as leaving them on when off road goes.

 

Just make the bags your bump stops.

 

i think the cups could work right now, but after the overhaul, they won't.

come sprung under or links, i would have to have the bag or cup in a position to mantain ride height that would limit the compression while wheeling.

air bumps are also going to be a must, so i won't need the bags to perform that function.

 

The cups will certainly keep your current setup viable till you're ready to do the full build on the back end.

 

assuming i can get full compression with them installed. my current bump stops are only 2'' tall. i'd be concerned that if i left these installed, i'd loose a couple inches of compression.

do you know who makes the cups?

i haven't been able to find a tacoma kit that comes with the cups, so i may have to jsut order the regular kit and do the cups afterward.

There's a link under the picture I posted. They're made by daystar. You'd have to build yourself a bracket that got them tucked up higher than the typical installation. Just a guess.

looking into it a little farther, i think i'll have to do some massaging of the lower mount regardless, to fit with the u-bolt flip. the ride right kit seems to be more acomodating than the firestone kit from that standpoint.

 

I don't know if you've figured out the transfer system yet, but I'm wondering if a shrader valve and a OBA system would work. Install a schrader valve on the tank, pressurize with OBA and let it flow. Flow could be controlled with a brass on/off ball valve.

since it's a marine tank, there is a pickup at the lowest point of the tank, with a fitting on the top of the tank (seen in the picture). i have two fuel pumps that will connect to that fitting in paralelle, so with the flip of a switch inside the cab, all of the fuel will be pumped into the factory tank.

 

The things people come up with and successfully build really amazes me. Check this out.

If someone wanted to do a simpler version would a ball valve attached to the bottom fitting and plumbed to a T in the fillneck hose allow for a simple gravity fed system? You got me thinking. I was gonna mount a fuel can on the swing out I'm having built next week but this fuel tank looks like a better solution.

 

that's a good option for a zero electronics setup.

or you could use an electronically actuated ball valve if you wanted to use a gravity feed system while still having on the fly control from in the cab.
