my dad has a dodge full size crew cab 2x4 with a v8. it has 130k miles on it and he's never had any issues out of it. he hauls an rv and such with it. he paid something like $27k for it brand new maybe less.

i'm sure you could get the same truck in 4x4 for maybe $30k which is around the same price as a v6 tacoma equally equipped.

so v8 or v6 it comes down to for some people.

my dad's truck gets 17 mpg which about the same as a v6 tacoma. maybe 1 mpg less so not a huge deal.

personally i would never buy a ford, chevy, or dodge because i think they look ugly. that is just me though.

by the way my reg cab toyota is a full size truck if you compare it to the old full sized trucks like my dad's 1972 chevy c-10. i think the only difference is his bed is longer.

mine was built in Nummi, California...probably by mexicans.

They are assembled in the US, broham. The Tundra and Tacoma are assembled in the best state in the country, the great state of Texas, by way of San Antonio. GM's and Fords are assembled in Mexico. US citizens put these things together, that's part of the reason I didn't buy GM or Ford. For a Japanese truck, at least they are assembled here.

well we aren't really talking about the top of the line full sized trucks. we are talking about entry full sized trucks are equal in price to v6 tacomas or close to it. maybe even cheaper in some cases.

they aren't exactly in the same category or anything but people that go to look to buy a truck don't care about that. they are just looking at what they can afford and what they get for that price.

if they can get a v8 motor cheaper than a truck with a v6 they will probably choose the v8 every time. even if it's not the biggest v8 engine offered and the hp and torque is similar to what the tacoma v6 offers. it's just the "v8" jumps out at them so they think it's bigger and better.

They're headquarters are also located in California, not Japan. They did announce though that the headquarters will be moving to TX in the next 5 years. They've already begun building a campus.

When I see a VIN that says "Made in Mexico" and "Manufactured by Toyota Motor Manufacturing De Baja California" Im assuming its made in Mexico.

Some are made in Texas and California too.

doesn't really matter to be honest. the mexicans are better workers than americans anyways and there is quality control put in by toyota so ultimately toyota is responsible no matter where they are built.

at least they aren't made in china yet.

mine is a 2009 made in nummi.

they shut the nummi plant down in 2010 or moved the tacoma from being made there at least.

They have been making them in Mexico for years and are only making more and more there. This VIN is from a 2014 Tacoma. If I was getting a new Tacoma I would prefer NOT to get a Mexican made one.

Example: A few years back I owned 2 identical Honda Accord 4 cylinders. One was Mexican made (rare car, I know) one was Japan made. Build quality was worse, seats were thinner, less insulation all around on the Mexican one and it just felt cheaper all around. Same car mind you, same model, 4 cylinder, auto, cloth seats and 1 month separated build date. Made in Mexico? NO thanks, my 1985 Honda 3011 riding mower has better fit and finish than stuff from Mexico.

Weird. I know for sure the Tundra is assembled here. I just don't know why they would move a production plant to San Antonio, and keep others open?

I have a friend with a newer model Frontier. It's a higher level trim and it in no way compares in quality, either interior or exterior with my '13 Tacoma. And I just don't feel like the Frontier is a truck. Seems more like an SUV with no roof on the back. Just my opinion.

As others have mentioned, my Tacoma also was built in Mexico. All the Tundra's are built in Texas as far as I know but I think certain model Tacoma's are manufactured at the plant in Mexico, or Baja De California. The border between Cali and Mexico has been somewhat obscure for quite a while now anyway. :)

From the research I've done, it seems like only DC's are made in Mexico. Not all DC, they are made in Texas too. But it doesn't seem like ANY RC or AC trucks are coming from Mexico.

Chief, I know what you mean, I drove a `11 or `12 exterra and it was just poor interior quality.

According to another thread, the Baja factory only builds V6 double cabs, and those are primarily sent to the western part of the country. The San Antonio plant builds Access Cabs and Regular Cabs, as well as double cabs primarily sent east. Check your VIN number. If it starts with 3 it was built in Mexico. If it starts with 5 it was built in Texas.

I hope a Taco Prerunner isn't $32k. I didn't pay that much for my '14 4x4 DCSB with TRD OR package.

I don't think people put enough emphasis on resale value when they purchase vehicles. A vehicle is a poor investment, I think we all agree on that, unless you were dropped on your head as a baby. Why not choose the vehicle that is the lesser poor investment.
Bought my Tacoma 2 years ago and I have about $3K in positive equity already. I've had grand cherokees and a ford explorer that I sold while I was upside down on the loan... which blows.
I'm bad about keeping cars... I've had 10 in the 13 years I've been driving so resale value is very important to me.
