Why are they so hard to find? All I want is 2 line display, all RED backlighting (some say red but look pink), front USB and Aux inputs, single DIN

I've yet to find one that I exactly one, and barely can find ones that I want just with a 1 line display.

    :annoyed:

alpine with biolite. i got 9887 and it has 5 differebt illumination options, even red/amber and red/red. i got mine set on blue/green. really stands out. plus biolite is prob. the only display that can be seen in the sun. the angle of the tacoma dash sucks and puts the display in the sun

if the 9887 had USB input (like, play music off a flash drive) and AUX i'd be all over it.

    but it doesn't.

You are asking for something overly specific and may have to lose one of those features. If you have USB input, why do you need AUX? Does it need to be a one line display?

Alpine iDA-X series will support USB input, iPod (with controls through deck), and feature red. You would have to purchase a cable to get an AUX input working.

I don't have an ipod, so iPod connect doesnt mean anything to me.

I want USB and Aux because I want to be able to plug in a USB memory stick and play music off of it. an 8gb usb stick is like $25, whereas a cheap 8gb usb mp3 player is around $100.

Aux because I could play someone elses music thru the stereo.

The iPod input doubles as a USB input. It's almost impossible to get a deck that does NOT have this. On some decks they have two USB inputs.

What are they using device-wise? If it's a USB stick, you are already covered. If it's an iPod, the iPod/USB cord has you covered. If it's a CD, make sure the deck has a CD player. If it's anything else, you can tell them to get out of your pimp ride and pedal themselves down to best buy.

EDIT: I guess they could be using a phone... but really, you just have to start drawing the line somewhere. That's crazy talk right there.

ah some devices say that the usb port is for a usb stick, some say its just for ipods.

    so damn confusing!

some company should just make the exact device that i want. it'd be so damn easier on me!

You should be fine with any Alpine unit. If you find you don't mind blue, Pioneer will work as well.

yeah pioneer makes green and blue.

i just dont see why there are not many all red displays. i mean, MOST german cars (cept VW) have all red, or red and white lighting. it just makes sense that people would want something to match 90% of the other lighting in their vehicle, rather than some bright ass blue display that looks out of place.

It's possible that what they sell in the East is more red/white. I think I remember Nakamichi making red, but I'm really unfamiliar with products outside of our backyard.

Clarion was kind of the first to do color differences with the 'Kameleon' or however they spelled it, which could do pink/blue/green/orange/red, but I never warmed to any of their products.

I agree though. It's really not that hard to make it switch to different colors, so why not do it? This was one of the reasons I didn't install my 'old' Pioneer on the truck.

I just happened to do some browsing today and found that Eclipse supports multiple colors (one of them being red), but you have to buy an external module to get an iPod hooked up... sounds like they enjoy shooting themselves in the foot.

Well I think I figured out what I want.

Alpine 9886. Except the european version, because they make one that's all red.

The 9886 in the US is only blue.
