He will still need to remove front mudflaps, trim the bottom portion of the front flares, and possibly need a cab mount chop.
Note that a cab mount chop is something you should eventually have, but you don't need to get it the exact same day. Just don't stuff the hell out of your tires.

    stock wheels have 5.5" backspace
the 'ideal' backspace from TW's consensus is 4.5"
The lower BS you go, the more the tire sticks out and ends up contacting the cab mount and flare.

Go for hub centric, it does a better job of centering the wheel when mounting, especially on our trucks.

OME does a great job with soaking up compression. Their downfall is with extension - they want to shoot out rapidly, and can be a bit jarring.
ICON/King/SAW/Fox/etc will be better, but it comes with a price.
I have 80k on my OME and it hasn't prevented me from doing anything. I've had people fall asleep in the back while I was cruising bumpy FS roads at 40. However, had I known the extent of offroading that I do, I would have gone with King.
If you are a high speed desert 4x4, go with the upgraded shocks because you will need to handle the extra abuse.

Pics of a lift isn't going to do much. You can do a spacer lift and it will look the same height-wise, but it's all in performance and ride feel. Additionally, you can waste a ton of money on spendy shocks for a pavement queen, when all you needed was Bilsteins.

Keep in mind regearing isn't a necessity. Drive it first and decide if the change is worth it to you, because it's an expensive addition. I haven't bothered to do it in mine.

You don't have to regear, but you will feel a power loss with bigger tires like that. If you carry heavy loads or pull a trailer much, you will want to look into regearing, but that isn't a cheap mod either.

Thanks guys, yeah I'm a V6, don't tow or carry heavy loads regularly and I love outdoors adventures etc so no pavement queen. But I do try to keep her looking nice for the mall when I go there ;)

So is 4.5 bs ideal on the 285/75r16 with 16x8 then?
I'm looking at going icon extended and rear with resi with icon AAL and icon UCAs now after more research. Hoping exhaust and intake will offset the difference later on

On a side on bumps do your guys' truck make a rattle sound on bumps? Can't tell if it's the bed or interior panels or what...

1 more thing, trimming the lower rear fender...is that just the inner part or the whole thing? Hate to look all choppy on the outside

I can't imagine you'd have to trim anything on the rear with that setup. You might not even need to chop the front if your alignmant is Caster heavy with that setup.

Sorry, meant rear of the front fender, and is that something I can ask the alignment shop I use to do? Does it effect anything negatively to have tires forward a tad?

Push the Caster as far forward as poosible! The truck will drive great at highway speed and steer heavy at low speed. But dont be afraid to trim...

About 1.5" removed from front, lower rear to clear 295/70R17's at full stuff

Me personally, I would suggest 3.5-4" backspacing for wheels on 285s.

AAL will give you a lift and almost assuredly a smoother ride than a full leaf pack. The full leaf pack is better for carrying weight, and I haul things with my truck quite a bit. AAL is also cheaper than the new leaf pack. You probably won't get enough flex out of an AAL to need a strut with external resi. With a 3" lift up front, my factory UCA rests against the coil at full droop. I will be looking into new UCAs soon enough too. Also, the felt power loss will not be made up with intake/exhaust unless the intake means taking a leaf blower and hooking it up to act like a turbo.

The guy who sold me the OME kit also included a front diff drop kit. That in conjunction with my ATO front skid causes some bumps and thumps as I drive. I also have something else that occasionally rattles in my front end, but I haven't found it yet. I think it is on my passenger side and sounds like metal on metal. I run with a stinger in my receiver full time, and that often rattles.

Why do you want such a lot of backspacing? You are just going to have more issues. I had 4.0 BS with my Maxxis Bighorn 285s and the outer edge of the tire would have a little clearance issues. You can get an idea in this picture. I can't imagine 3.5"

It gives a smoother ride because the AAL is eventually going to sag. I'm looking to get rid of mine.

Flex doesn't have really much to do with remote resi shocks, unless you are worried about the overall extension. I don't think you have to worry about that until you do something a bit more extreme, such as a long travel rear. Read what 4 Wheeler Mag has to say below. I'd follow up by saying that it really becomes a factor of your style of driving. I haven't heard of OMEs having heating issues, but then again, most OME setups aren't being used for high speed desert racing... at which point remote resi shocks become more important. Keep in mind that you can go out for a day at the dunes with OMEs, but if you are continually going 80mph through whoops, I'd go for something better.

Yeah, I decided against the diff drop after discussing with some other folks. Diff drops typically correct issues with CV axle angles after a lift, but our trucks are built differently and a diff drop is either a net zero effect, or leads to problems. I don't have the thread saved away, but there's a member here who had bad issues with a diff drop.
In regards to a driveline spacer... it's hit or miss. Same story on 1-piece driveshafts, though your likelihood of solving issues is at least better.

Well got out to Beckler road today and went up a few roads there. The main one which is my favorite had a brand new gate that was locked about a mile from the top... Hiked up around there for about an hour before heading to some other roads. Amazing day though to be up there

Thanks Mike and Beavis. When I put the diff drop spacers on, it seemed a little weird. Putting the skid on, it was not quite long enough to hold the supports against the frame, but I put a couple washers in, and that leaves just a tiny bit of clearance between the skid and diff. I think I will be removing the spacers when I am back home. Currently in Albany, OR with JoeTacoma for tough Mudder.
