    Greetings Tacoma fans!

I am in the market for a used truck. I found one that fits my budget and am seeing it this weekend. I've never owned a truck, but with our active lifestyle, I am finding we need one for towing my fishing boat and hauling kayaks.

I would like to get your opinions as to pros, cons, things to look out for, and any other advice you might have to offer.

The truck I am considering a 2008 Tacoma Double Cab TRD Off-road A/T with 103k miles for $19k. Its got power everything. Here's the ad:

As a side note, the other truck I am considering is a 2010 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x A/T with 2.5" lift. It has 73k miles and willing to let go for $20k.

Thanks to any/all who care to help me through the purchasing research!

Welcome to TW. The opinions here might be biased as you are in a Toyota forum. Based on KBB, they are a bit over priced. $18.3K for the Tacoma and $19.5K for the Frontier was the value that I came up with. Neither of them is screaming out "great deal". I suggest you drive them both and find out what feels better for you. Depending on purchase price, I say the Nissan is a better value but keep in mind it has been modified. The Tacoma is stock with nothing done to it. It all really boils down to pricing as they are both good trucks. Our Tacoma's, FJ, and 4Runner has been problem free. We also had a Pathfinder that had about 210K miles when sold and was problem free. Drive both and negotiate in person as people are more willing rather than e-mail, text, and phone.

Thank you for the warm welcome!

I drove the Nissan and it drives great. The owner takes great pride in his truck, thats for sure. The leather appeals to me as we have dog now and a baby in 1-2 years or so. The Tacoma just has the bette reputation behind it, but I don't know anything about the varying Tacoma generations...hence my post to see if the 08' is reputable or not. I don't plan on doing any serious off roading, just some fire roads when going to shoot or trips to the snow for boarding.

Can anyone provide more insight to the 2008 Tacomas? Anything to be aware of or look for when checking out the truck?

You're welcome. Either truck will suit your needs. As far as resale value, it is true that the Tacoma holds it's value well. I'm not sure about the Frontier. Go ahead with your test drive this weekend and go from there. I usually opt for the lower mileage but I'm sure they can both go over 200K if maintained.
