Yeah, just hang it off the plastic piece on the fuel door.

While we are talking about fuel doors; I sprayed the entire inside of mine with fluid film because there was a little resistance and creaking sound when opening and closing the door, plus I read a few threads about rusty fuel door hinges breaking. Anyway after spraying the fluid film, my fuel door opens and closes as smooth as butter with no resistance or creaking. I'd recommend that everyone do this!

Pics? I have a Baja, which is as TRD as it gets. The only clip I have there is the latch that keeps the fuel door shut.

My '98 4Runner did not have a tether on the gas cap, but it had sort of a notch in the fuel door to hold the cap. You could kind of catch the cap's threads and it would hold it pretty securely. My '14 Tacoma has a tethered cap, but no notch. I just hang the tether over the door's spring catch, as described in many posts in this thread.

I just let mine hang on the left fender probably would not be a good ideal to drive down the road like that but no problem otherwise.

I affixed a neodymium magnet to the fuel cap and such it to the fuel door.

As OCD as I am I literally just let it hang on the lanyard. Take it off and gently let it rest there. Never had a issue with scratching the paint.

I used to worry about this and I did use the clip, now it's so old I don't care anymore.

Lets see NJ and Oregon. What other states do I need to avoid. That is one of the stupidest things I ever heard of. Cannot pump your own gasoline.

Is the gas cap dangling a real problem? Why?

This level of OCD is going to give you ass cancer. You've got to just let it dangle and remember to put it back on before you drive off.

    Don't give yourself Ass Cancer.
