Recently a TSB was announced for 2012 + Tacomas with pinging problems, usually at around 1500 RPM while cruising at or close 45MPH and when the weather is hot. Cooler weather usually keeps the pinging out of the equation.

I have gotten some pinging under the above circumstances while using 91 California gas. I would like to hear if any other members have the problem with 2005 to 2011 V6 trucks.

I have a 2006, and have never had a pinging issue. Tick, yes....but ping, no.

2011 with 55K; no pinging. Used 89 or 91 octane since day one.

I do with a 2012 V6 with So Cal gas. It is so bad with 87 that I can even use it. It still does with 89 but it is no where near as bad as with 87. It doesn't matter if it is hot or cold. I just wrote it off as typical toyota ping. This is my 3rd tacoma in a row and all 3 pinged so bad with 87 that I couldn't even use it. First 2 were 1st gen 3.4L's. Glad to see the issued a TBS. Another thing to add to the list when I take this pile of crap in.

Haven't heard anything but a slight tick at idle in a 2014 running exclusively on 85 octane here.

Mine does it if I run crap gas from the shady gas station in the middle of nowhere with rusty above ground tanks. I keep a small bottle of amsoil 2 stroke mix in the truck and dump some in and it seems to stop it. Not much, maybe 8oz to a full tank does the trick. I've ran a few tanks of 100 octane race gas too, ran fine on it. Seems like I get the best mileage and power on non ethanol premium, but that's hard to find in californistan.

I have one that pings as described. In AZ, the pings are more noticeable in 100+ degree heat. Glad some Tacos may get some resolution to this issue which has existing for almost 8 years now.

I have had a some pinging out of my 07 Access cab v6 a couple of times at WOT towards the upper RPM band. I immediately switched over to 91 octane (from 87), ran seafoam through it, changed the plugs (they were a little overdue had 50k highway miles on them) haven't heard it since (but I dont think I have hit WOT again since). My truck just turned 200k but has been meticulously maintained and driven very easily its entire life, runs like a brand new truck!

My 2011 has pinged for a while, since 20K miles or so, I have 68k now. I started running 89 octane and it pings less, but it will still ping under load on occasion. I quick taking it to the dealer, as I could never get it to ping on command when there. I am hoping for the tsb that covers 2011s :)
