    The plan, or lack of..

Day 1 will be traveling north and stopping for the night in Yreka, Ca. Hopefully we can make it that far lol. day 2 will be visiting the Oregon Caves and Crater Lake and camping over night. Day 3 will bring a visit to Tualatin,Or. To visit the Kershaw Knife factory to take advantage of their complimentary knife sharpening services. Then onward to Portland. That's all that's solid so far for the 10 day trip :cookiemonster:

rumors has it that Portland is the stripper capital in the nation. Hard to believe when there were 5 tittie bars in Augusta, Ga. When I was stationed at Fort Gordon. Good times good times those days were.

Drink a beer at Fort George in Astoria, take a drive on the beach from Gearhart all the way to Fort Stevens. Fort Clatsop, Fort Stevens bunkers. The Cove in seaside is fun. The turnaround is fun too. I live in Astoria. If you like fishing and have a stomach for it you could get a charter boat and fish the ocean for salmon too, the river will also be open at that time. If you like boats and history the maritime museum in astoria. The astoria column at the very top of the hill. Cannon beach is a neat little town, haystack rock is great if the tide is low. The stores downtown are fun, best restaurants are in Cannon Beach, spendy but by far the best. Ill think of more and let you know. :)

Awesome! I have a handful of Kershaws and their HQ has been plenty helpful when I have needed to contact them fro sharpening or replacement parts etc. Great quality knives that are affordable.

If you guys want to do some wheeling while up in WA, we have finally set a solid plan (the wild-fires up here have made us change plans last-minute): http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/north-west/319254-lost-corner-exploration-19.html#post9013980

Thanks for the concern Jasmine, it has been been the worst for fires in WA history w/ over 350,000 acres burned. Luckily many local residents are being evacuated though almost 40 deaths and over 300 homes have been lost to the fires. I hope your trip isn't affected by it :(

It makes me feel like a selfish ass, but I was REALLY looking forward to the WABDR trip, but I think camping at Naches will be just as fun (if not moreso).

On a more positive note - KERSHAW PORN :D

If passing through Grants Pass OR the Hellgate Riverboat Tour on the Rogue river is fun. Camping on that river isn't bad either, nice campsites right on the river. Didn't get to do the caves you're talking about but there’s an awesome campsite (state park) off to the right of the highway before heading up the mountain, I stayed there for $10 a night and that was with electric. River running through it and heavily wooded, absolutely beautiful.

Loved the Red Wood Forest heading towards the coast. Did the typical hiking and site seeing along the organ coast, this is a must.

Here is a link to a fire map with all the big ones on it. If you zoom in on an icon it will show the fire boundry (what's been burned up) http://www.nwccweb.us/information/firemap.aspx

This fire season pales in comparison to the summer of 1910. 3 million acres burned, 86 dead. IN TWO DAYS. http://www.idahoforests.org/fires.htm

This is awesome, we're interested in at least the first day but it depends in our schedule but not really because there isn't really a schedule to follow :cookiemonster:

Here is a link to ODOT and WADOT with road closure info. I use the cameras to check out road conditions sometimes, and to check the weather.

If you need a pinpoint weather forecast type in city, state or click on the map to zoom around.

Also, don't forget Benchmade, Leupold, CRKT, and good 'ol tillamook cheese are all made in Oregon too!

Good old northern California. Just wait till you hit Weed. Which is actually a great place to stop for the night.
