I got a tattoo of the famous japanese "big wave"

I'm half Japanese and spend my life around water so this is why I picked this one...

Can't really see all the detail and color in the pic...

I have a question guys about color cover up. So I got this tattoo last year and really hate the green color between the blue and yellow. Its like a dirty yellow marker

    e28dca2c-ed0f-4568-9ccd-c9f04c158b20_zps_efda0550bb1a9cb460fdabde6c98daf062b30bd5.jpg

So I was wondering how to take into account color on top of color. What would it look like if I got that blue over the dirty yellow color? Would it look like the color on the head between the blue and the dirty yellow?

    Thanks!

It's going to look green. The reason it looks like that is because blue and yellow mixed together make green, he may not have tattooed the color green on you but simply by overlapping those colors your brain reads it as green. There is a name for it but I can't think of it.

Unless you use a really dark blue it's still going to look green, if I were you I would just fade that blue into a teal green color, it's going to work best over that yellow. Either that or black, cover the yellow with black and fade the black into the blue.

Good news is the tattoo looks good otherwise

Edit: after further inspection it looks like he did the blue first and the tube was not completely clean, yellow is really easy to dirty up, even a tiny bit of blue in the yellow ink cap will turn the whole thing that dirty color. Probably not what you wanted to hear but he shoulda done the yellow first.

Thanks for letting me know! So are you saying that if I get the artist to do the blue (blue arrow) over the yellowish color (green arrow) up to the blue spotted line it will make the teal color where the black arrow is pointed?
Or just have a new color teal be put over that greenish yellow?

I wanted a gradient so that's why there is the mix. Here is what I gave him

I guess it's my fault with that ugly green because that's what I gave him.
Also kind of mad that there aren't any claws on the bear paw and the wolf and shark and kinda blobby haha

Should've just done half yellow have blue

Currently my only ink is on my forearm, but I am saving/working on a piece which will end up being an "Americana" themed full sleeve. The thought it to have the sleeve on the entire arm, around the current tattoo.

The wolf and and shark are jammed into really small spaces in the tattoo. If you would've had it tattooed larger they would've been sharper. Getting really sharp lines in small tattoos isn't easy. And as a new tattoo "takes" the lines will lose a bit of their original sharpness.

That is true! It was my first tattoo so I should've consulted someone or researched more how small details you can go in a small space and how gradients work. I've just seen very small details in tattoos so thought it could be done.

probably should've mentioned that they were a wolf and a shark too because when it was blown up to transfer onto my back I bet it lost lines and became pixilated and thats probably where the claws for the bear paw went

Bottom line man it's not your fault it a up to us, the artists to tell you what is possible or not. I can tell by his line work that he/she knows how to tattoo well so really there's no excuse for the paw and the sharpness of the wolf and shark. The color to me looks spot on to the picture you gave him, not everything translates perfectly from internet to skin. You've gotta remember we are artists doing some by hand, my hands not an inkjet printer. All and all I think the tattoo looks good, I see this a lot especially with people's first tattoos the mentality is different. When someone only has 1 tattoo they tend to be very critical over the smallest of details, not saying this is a bad thing at all just an observation I've made after doing this for 6 years. There comes a point when you have multiple tattoos that you sort of stop sweating the small stuff and it's more about having that picture or thought on your skin and knowing it's there. It's still very important the tattoo is done properly. I hope I'm making sense sometimes I ramble.

To answer your question yes you can either cover that yellow with the same color blue that's at the top and it would make a sorta muddy teal blue, or if the artist covers that yellow with a teal it will make a more vibrant green teal.
