How to disable 2011 DRL's?

Because they melt your light assembly.

 

A safety feature that destroys your equipment by melting it is not worth much to me.

I love it! One of my friends has been trying to convince me there's *obviously* a built-in switch somewhere to turn off the daytime running lights. Glad to know I'm right that there isn't. And also glad to know there's a way to put a switch in. I like having them because of the amount of highway driving I do on 2-lane/65mph roads; there's a big difference in visibility with the DRLs or headlights on. But sometimes I want to be stealthy. Like at night, chilling on a back road somewhere with some friends (yes, alcohol generally involved. Who wants the cops to show up at their 4-friends-getting-drunk-in-the-middle-of-nowhere party? Yeah, maybe we're just losers). If it's cold and you want to run the heater everyone for 5 miles can see those damned DRLs. Would be nice to be able to turn them off. I've never tried modifying my vehicle before, but I think I just might try putting a switch in there. Warrany is up in 3000 miles anyway... time to play!

 

where's everyone getting the parts and how much, seems cheapest i found is bout 40bucks?

 

Toyota dealer........Thinking It was $65.00......not real sure on price.

 

You guys are over-thinking this whole thing.
No money needs to be spent.
No wires need cutting .
As you already know , when you have the e-brake
set prior to starting, the drl's will be off on start-up.
Sooo, simply reach under the dash, unplug the single
wire from the grounding switch of the e-brake pedal.....
And ground it with an alligator clip.
Done .
No voided warranty issues. Put it back when you need to.
The only issue you are left with is no e-brake dummy light.

 

Melted dtrl lense = you get a new headlight with the new glass dtrl lense for free

Have the whole relay connections in, dash ripped apart and I am testing the switch now. It doesn't fucking work!!
Any help?
I am suspecting that the gauge wire I used for the switch may be too big. Would that affect it?
I am using 14.

Hey John, I PM'd you but will put some here too for others.
The mod works great. My 2011 never had the DRL and I wanted them in with a swtich. So I did order the DRL/Flasher Relay to go in the box.
I now have DRL w/ switch control.

 

did that on my 2009. On my 2013 I just leave them off for that reason and yes I have been told that on the 13 they will not melt. Mine definitely will not.

 

had to remove my steel bumper so Toyota could remove and replace my headlights for free because they melted. So I went ahead and installed this mod wasn't easy but I am tickled to death about it. just don't cut the all green wire, make sure its the green with red line first before you get plier happy. it should save a lot of time.
