    Hey all,

Looking into a 2012 TRD Offroad, and mainly a lurker for information. Potential Tacoma has almost 60,000 miles, and from what I've seen, these trucks hold value well and do well when it comes to the motor.

Any particulars I should look into before diving in and buying said Tacoma?

    Thanks!

    Seth

It's pretty rare for them to have any problems that early in life. Some of the earlier models had frame rust issues but that should not be an issue on the newer ones.

I'd spend some time looking around here and getting to know more about the truck.

    Are you looking in Germany?

    Service records are a plus

only concern is aftermarket parts, just make sure they were installed properly if there are. Tacos have been consistently bulletproof

Where in Germany are you? Currently stationed at spang. What is the price they are asking? And no real particulars to look for on 2012 besides check if it has the updated touch screen or the old with no touchscreen

I am looking in Germany. It's straight stock (for now), and no service history that I know of.

Means all the fluids are going to get flushed.

I'm at Ramstein, they are asking 28xxx$. No touch screen, but to be honest, I'd be swapping that out for a double din.

Or, I could wait a few months, spend an extra 4000$ and get one with 0 miles on it.

I would rather do that. Are you ordering it? Or going through a dealer there?

We have special "tax free" dealers here. They take orders, and then get the American dealers to ship them over on either the governments dime (on orders) or spend an extra 300$ to have it delivered.

So in other words, I would be ordering it, then waiting a year or two and getting a LT kit, big meaty tires, and then getting it ready to ship back to the states.

I vote for this option. I bought a new Civic earlier this year to daily drive. I looked at a 2012 with 66k on it was only $4k cheaper OTD than a brand new 2014. That wasn't enough of a difference for me, I went with the 2014.

That's what I'm daily driving now :D I just really miss having a truck. Before the Honda I had a Ranger that I played around with in the local mud pits, and going out to the desert in California every year, gave me the inspiration for the LT Tacoma.

60k is a lot of miles for a 2 year old vehicle. I'd be worried about how it was driven. Like others have said... For that price might as well get a new 2014 for a couple thousand more

as a few have stated before I would buy new for that price I can imagine that you don't have to aim for $4000 more the14 year is closing out also usaa does preferred pricing for military.

Exactly. That was the biggest thing for my wife and I. How can you put 60k miles in 2 years anyway

They do military pricing, but since there is no other dealerships in the area, they can set the price and not budge. It's really annoying.

That is a lot of miles. I bought my 2007 in 2010 and it only had 23k miles. I think I'd pay the extra $4000 and buy new. And I totally get the "no competition pricing" annoyance. It's like that for Toyotas here in Alaska, there's only one dealer in the state. That's why I held out to find one used. But I did cave on that when we bought my wife's Highlander new this past June.

It is what it is. Good luck. :)

    Thank you.

I'm still playing around with ideas, my father in law is suggesting a full sized truck for the towing capacity, but I can't really fathom having to tow more than 6-7000 pounds plus whatever is in the cabin. We love to go offroading as well as ride dirt bikes, and I race my street bike (closed road track) and I can do most of that with my Civic as it sits right now.

Tacoma's hold their value too well for used to be worth it, I was in the exact same boat you are and went with brand new. very happy with that decision.

full size is a tough call though, you really do get a lot more truck for your money and fuel economy is similar enough that the only real benefit of a Tacoma is size for driving around town (turning radius is fantastic by the way). but still I'd loooove a diesel.... cough, ram, or new Colorado

From the looks of it, I'm going to have to wait until the 2015's become available for ordering before I can get a new one. So it's going to be a couple of months yet unfortunately.

I will post pictures when things get rolling.

using that as a bargaining chip on a '14 isn't an option?

His situation is a little different being stationed overseas in Germany. I expect there are no new 2014s left over there and they aren't yet placing orders for 2015s. :notsure: but that's my guess.
