T-SB-0044-14 Feedback: Engine ECM Reprogram [Pinging]

Had mine done yesterday was done in a hour the truck is completely silent more power more mpg it great thank you toyota for you guys with the ping call your dealer and make appointment you will be very happy like me

 

Anyone In canada get this done? The tsb says US in the region section why I ask

 

What does this "ping" sound like? Any sound clips?

 

Look on the last page for my post. That's what my truck sounded like and is what a lot of people have described it sounding like. You might want to turn your volume up.

So far so good since getting the tsb done on my truck. Seems to idle better as well. Worth getting done if you ask me

Just got this done yesterday, did it as a preventative measure..... Haven't actually heard pinging since I always use 91. I will say the truck seems "different" and in a good way.

 

Hi - thanks for the feedback. Are you back to running 87 regular unleaded now?

 

I'm still on my tank of 91 octane; next fill-up I'm going to give 87 a shot and I will report back any issues.

 

I meant to respond a couple weeks ago but I had the TSB performed about a month ago. It was pinging only when warmer out with the AC on now after the TSB it seems like it does it regardless of the temp. I'm not certain if the dealer even performed the re flash because part of the TSB is to put a new decal under the hood.

 

Welp, secured the rollers on my fairlead, and truck still makes the rattle ping thing, so maybe I will get the TSB thing done

 

Sadly, this is a possibility.

I decided to take advantage of the Toyota Care 25,000 mile free maintenance that my dealer included with the sale of the truck. Each time I brought my truck to the dealer, I asked the service writer to stamp my maintenance log, and mark with a pen which service items were performed.

At each 5,000 mile service interval (up to 25k miles), the service writer marked the items "Re-torque Propeller Shaft Bolt," "Lubricate Propeller Shaft," and "Tighten Nuts and Bolts on Chassis and Body."

When I inspected nuts/bolts on the chassis/body/propeller shaft (driveline unions) after each 5,000 mile service, NONE of them had been touched with a socket or wrench of any kind. I couldn't find a single mark on the factory black paint on any piece of hardware. When I crawled under the truck for the first time to check greasing of the u-joints, ALL of the grease zerk fittings still had the original factory black paint sealing covering the tiny ball in the center. No grease had ever been added to any u-joint since being greased at the factory pre-paint. [See Picture Below]



SO, all this is to say, that it is very possible that they told you they performed a service, which was actually never performed.

I'm a service/parts manager, and whenever I see blatant errors like this, it makes my skin crawl.

First off.... the free service at 5k intervals ONLY include tire rotation and oil / filter change... thats it... no other labor.

 

I would like to know what footnote #3 is, since all of those items have a little "3" footnote after them.

 

If that is the case, then the sales manager that finalized my purchase definitely over-exaggerated the complimentary up-to-25k maintenance.

As a service manager myself, I'd rather be told that up-front instead of someone marking my service schedule book inaccurately. I'm not trying to be nitpicky here...but I prefer accuracy/honesty when it comes to what was done & what wasn't done.

 

Footnote 3 - "Includes operating on roads which road salt has been applied."

So, the way I read it...."Perform these service items only if you drive primarily on dirt roads with dusty conditions and where road salt has been used."

 

Right, so if he normally drives highways, then no need to do the ones with the "3" footnote.

 

Yes yes - I see where you're going with this.

As far as nut/bolt torque goes, they probably never needed to be touched. I would like to have seen them at least attempt to put a grease gun on each zerk fitting.

Either way, I caught it myself & took care of both items .

I was merely trying to show that it is possible for someone to say they performed a service to a piece of equipment, when actually no such service was performed.
