im lookin at getting this electric supercharger with a stage 1 ecm chip and a voltage stabiizer. if anyone who knows anything could ake a look at these items and tell my if this would e a good investment or if i should save my money and get something else. My interest for this purchase would be power for getting up hills at 60-70mph and mpg, a little torque for off road wouldn't hurt either.

thanks for your time to help me out

Sounds like snake oil. Get the TRD supercharger if you want power. MPG? Buy a Prius.

I also have a 2.7, and the best mod I've found for more low end torque is a LCE long tube header ($450 plus shipping). Combined with the stock exhaust it will help you get up the hills better and will also help your off road drivability.

The other things you referred to would only waste your money.

They don't make a S/C for the 2.7L. So in his case I guess it would be "If you want power, get a 4.0L"

i think im going to go with this, ill be spending a little more money on shipping probably (hawaii) but its still sounding better than paying for the super bad ass charger made by urd. i don't have that kind of money right now. maybe next time i make a vegas trip i will

The link only shows an empty shopping cart, so I'm not sure to what you're referring.

Even if you got a header now and did happen to get a supercharger later, the header would just make your engine run even better because it can easily handle the increased exhaust flow of a high performance engine.

Because my truck is used every day for work, I like to keep the engine normally aspirated for the sake of simplicity, longevity, and reliability. So instead I use a variety of simple bolt on intake and exhaust mods solely to enhance the low end torque with no regard for top end horsepower.

To date I'm running these mods (and how much each lowered the torque peak)

LCE long tube header (-650 rpms)
    Injen long tube intake
Tooter intake manifold spacer (-250 rpms)
Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow muffler (-100 rpms)

    Bone stock 2.7:

    133 ftlbs @ 3,800 rpms

    My 2.7 :

    162 ftlbs @ 2,800 rpms

This particular combination of mods increased the absolute torque value by 29 ftlbs... while lowering the torque peak by 1,000 rpms.

The mods make the engine feel much larger than it really is,
because it pulls so strong at low rpms. :)

I plan to get one of thw two popular headers for my truck soon. I have GOT to find out why I have this dead spot at 2300 RPM though. It is driving me batshit crazy at this point. I can find no rhyme or reason for it.

Yikes... it has to be a real mystery if it can stump you. 2,300 should be a bright spot. Do you think there's a possibility of an ignition advance curve or timing chain issue?

Wish my truck was one year older so I could get the URD supercharger but I guess I'll have to go with the LCE supercharger which isn't half bad either .

would be nice to have the supercharger but dang $5000 almost. i'd rather just trade mine in for a v6 than do that. i'd end up paying about the same amount.

If I wanted more power, that's what I'd do. Whenever you try to wring more power out of an engine with forced induction, it will come at the cost of reliability and longevity.

What was your previous manifold? Was it the bulky cast model or the newer Toyota header?

It's a 2012, so the manifold is just the regular stock black plastic one. I added a 2 inch thick spacer to make each individual intake runner longer. That lowered the torque peak as well as fattened it up in a few places.

I know what you mean about the cast ones.

I had a 1996 Tacoma 2.4 with those super long intake runners, as well as a separate port for each of the 8 intake valves. It had superb low end torque. I wish my 2.7 had that intake on it. :)

See, I have looked at all of that, and I don't see any issues. The timing chain is pretty much new, and everything is tight. I have the valves properly shimmed. I have good fuel pressure, and the injectors appear to be operating fine. Timing is computer controlled, and I see no issues there either. Just for whatever reason when accelerating at say 50% or more throttle, she takes off fine, shift into 2nd gear and when she gets up to just before 2300 RPM, it acts like you threw a small runner's parachute out the tailgate.(You know, the one that runners use to improve their strength in running) and that "drag" stays there until she gets up to around 2450-2500 RPM, and then it starts to improve. Same thing when I shift into 3rd, and 4th. Same RPM band, so I KNOW it is engine related. I just haven't been able to find the cause. I am hoping that getting a good header setup will get rid of the issue.

At 50% or more throttle is it still in closed loop when it bogs down, or has it reverted to the ECU's preset open loop fuel map? A good test would be swapping another ECU if you can get your hands on one even for just a little while. Also, is it possible to reflash an ECU's firmware?
