Toyota Recall ( Melting DTRLs)

Does anyone know if your truck MUST have DTRL's?? I wanted the black headlights instead of chrome ones so i got some on Ebay (yes they're factory toyota) and they have melting in them... but my truck doesnt have DTRL's.

Do you think theyll still replace them, and will they get me the black ones again?

Do you mean the gunmetal chrome ones? Toyota never offered a black headlight.

OK, you can ask your dealership, but typically they will replace with stock. But they may make the exception, never know if you don't ask.

 

Entered my VIN and it does NOT show my ride having this recall,
however, both my lenses have melted.

So now what, call the dealer?...btw did any of you folks
get a letter from Toyo about this?...

Sitting in Toyota as I type. They are replacing both headlights in my '10 Taco w/ 97,000 miles. Only the right one showed melting. The manager said it's still only a TSB but Toyota is replacing the headlights for "customer service".

 

My Vin is in the range listed in the SB, but when i log into the toyota owners site, i dont get any notifications. Also didnt get a letter. I think you only get these notifications on certain bulletins or something like that....

I think they are doing this when we keep telling people that IT IS NOT A RECALL!!!

I finally had the chance to go to Frank Toyota in National City (San Diego) and ask about my headlights. Know this: These are smoked chrome headlights which were NOT available in 2006 when I purchased my Tacoma. Since then, I had replaced them with these. One side is worse than the other. As you can tell from the pictures, one is noticeable and the other one just started. These headlights are OEM and were off (I think) a 2009 or 2010 Tacoma Sport. Frank Toyota, even though they had headlights in stock, did NOT replace mine with those. They said that they have to order "special" factory made headlights strictly made for the warranty exchange. I have no control over what Toyota will send them even though I requested smoked chrome. So to make a long story short, they have been ordered. I will go back later this week and yes I did provide them with my letter as proof. So I'm not sure if the headlight is the problem or the amount of wattage/heat being displaced from the bulb.

I was told they order from your vin so those with chrome who are hoping for the gunmetal I wouldn't get your hopes up.

 

I guess asking if someone wants to trade would be out of the question. New for new??? Chrome for Smoked-Chrome.

 

its crazy theyeven ordered them for you....the guys i dealt with would have laughed because there is barely any bubbling

 

My dealer just ordered mine. Says headlights are ordered from VIN, so your VIN will determine if you get chrome or smoked.

 

Went yesterday (8-11-24) and took the PDF sheet that has the Vin numbers and the servie guy looked at my light and said he had to talk to the Service manager
than today (8-12-14) I got a call at 0745 and they said come in for the replacement lights Both left and right free of charge.

As u can see the drive side had a small nickel size melting spot but the passenger said was ok
and they started to fad on the outer lens
