Toyota had a promo going in June. Approved credit = 0% for 36 months.

Maybe he got a similar promo when he purchased?

The monthly number is meaningless if you don't know for how long the loan is.

$20,000 for 60 month's and $20,000 for 72 months equals a different payment and different interest paid.

You always want to put as much down as possible and finance for as short a time period as possible.

But you can always sign for the longest amount, get a lower payment but pay much more. That way if one month you just cant pay to much you can fall back on the low minimum payment.

Well, if you care about your long-term future, pay off your truck before you buy a house. It'll make it that much smoother, enjoyable, and stress-free! I've never bought a house, but again, if you want Dave's advice again: 15 year fixed-rate mortgage with a payment that does NOT exceed 25% of your take home pay. His real answer is that he would never borrow a dollar again, ever. But he knows that's a little more unrealistic for us common folk, so 15 year fixed is his only exception.

...and your cell phone bill is not debt. It's just another monthly recurring expense. So only 1 debt! Wow, you're ahead of the curve for most 21 year olds I know. Be "teachable" now and fill yourself with knowledge so you can keep it that way

yeah i really do not want a 30 year loan. ive looked at the interest id be paying, and its more than the cost of the house!!! yikes

ive grown up in a poor household, i finally have a great job with the power company. even growing up i hated owing anybody anything. i hate owing on that truck now. im paying double payments right now. but hope to up that to triple. and my income tax and bonus check is going straight from my hands to the credit unions hands too!

    @707tac05-

I am too brother... most of us are, it's cool because that's how people educate themselves, through experience! Whether it's for you or not, to each his own. It's just not for me any more and I'm doing my damndest to climb outta the "debt" hole as fast as humanly possible.

Other nice mortgage tips (cause you are right-most folks will need one if they want to buy a house):
    1) Pay Bi-Monthly- Interest compounds on smaller amounts and (for a 30 year mortgage) you can pay it off up to 7 years sooner just by paying twice a month.
    2) Pay just a bit (100 to 200 if you can) more every payment and it'll shorten the loan another 5 years. Extra money (Tax returns, casino winnings, etc etc) can help alot too...Direct principles payments are HUGE.
    3) Tax write offs apply to mortgages....and there are LOTS of home buyer credits and stuff too....

OUCH... Just paid of a loan I had taken out a few years ago that I owed $3,500 to. That put a nice big hole in my wallet. And now im about to send a payment in full to a credit card that I owe $2,400 to OUCH again... Oh well gotta get rid off all this dept I put myself in if I want to be able to get myself a 2nd Gen Taco. But I will still have a school loan that I pay $50 a month but no intrest and 1 credit card that I owe 1,500 to and one that I owe 1,000 to..

7% is rather steep. My CU charges 3.9-4.9 depending on terms of loan.

I started listening to the audio book of Dave Ramsey

I'm not sure I can "read" a book by listening to it, even though it's Dave himself reading it.. I'll have to give ti another go. I prefer to read and listen to music.. when you're with an audiobook, you have to concentrate so you can only listen to it and nothing else.

I'll try in the car during my commute

I've subscribed to audio books for years. Unless you are listening to a novel, I wouldn't worry about concentrating. The beauty of the audio books is that you can listen to it a number of times - I'm listening to Victor Frankl's, Man's Search for Meaning - for me it is the way to change your perspective when things get tough. The effect of an event is more about your response than the event itself. He survived the Holocaust.
