Overall it looks like you are consistent with your puddle agitation, (I'm assuming you do circles), but if you move quicker while keeping that consistent agitation at the puddle the weld will flatten out and fuse into the base sheet better. That particular weld is (in my opinion) too large for the rod being welded. A narrow weld about halfway up on the rod would suffice.

 

Had to mock it up.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still working on my technique. I do notice I let my circles get bigger as I move along welding. Need to work on that.

The finished product should look good. It's a headstone for my buddies dog that passed away last year.
Edit: the more I look at this I think the letters are too big. I think I will redo them and make then a bit smaller

 

haha well I wouldnt bring a 2wd to moab, but ya. I decided a 4wd was best. So glad I did
