Do body lifts affect towing ratio's?

I am having a 2.5 daystar body lift installed on my 08' Taco. Will this affect my towing ratio? I am purchasing a camper that weighs 3093 lbs. empty. Will the added weight along with the body lift harm or decrease my tow ratio?

 

What do you mean by tow ratio? Do you mean toe rating? A body lift won't affect how much you can tow.

 

Your tow hitch is attached to the frame...crawl under your truck once in a while

 

You will obviously need to use the frame mounted hitch, that will be completely unaffected by the lift. I wouldn't have put on a body lift but then again its not my truck.

If I had a body lift and a bumper hitch I would be afraid to tow anything.

 

Sorry for the confusion, let me clarify. Will the body lift change my towing rating/capacity? Also will having the body lift and towing items over 3000 lbs. damage my diff. or drive shaft? The reason i ask is I have heard it might over time.

 

No, unless you have the receiver on your bumper (and your bumper isn't connected to the frame). I'm not sure about weight in the bed and a BL though.

 

Best question here is why are you doing a body lift vs a suspension lift.

Body lifts are crap

 

I have a 3" body lift and 3" suspension on my truck and tow things and pull people out. I haven't had any problems with it. As long as your hitch is bolted to the frame (if its the factory then it is), then your safe.

 

My truck has the towing package, its a class IV hitch. The reason for the body lift is a freind has one, I liked so I went with it.

 

if it isnt installed already...please get something else...even a coil spacer and blocks are better

 

Seriously. If you take your truck offroad ever, I mean, accidentally drive on your front lawn occasionally, DO NOT GET A BODY LIFT.

The rear bumper is also attached to the frame and unaffected by a body lift. Just FYI.

 

Yours is only a 1" though isn't it? Mine is a 1" and they are much more reasonable. I find most bodylift pieces for 2+" lifts are sketchy looking... I'd be worried about them bending or breaking under hard stress.

 

I'm actually having spacers and blocks installed as opposed to an actual body lift, "body lift" was just the terminalogy that the installer used.

 

Yeah I upraded my cab bolts to grade 8 as well Mine survived but I haven't actually checked every little puck for damage though. haha

 

Op the answer is no.. when you put larger tires on then your answer will be yes. I wouldn't know where to begin on the math but with a larger tire it will decrease your towing ratings. It will be harder for you truck to turn larger tires and pull 3K pounds rather than stock.

I've seen numerous body lifts and have yet to see a total problem with them. I wouldn't have it on my truck but thats just me. Blocks and spacer will be fine for just about anyone. Don't get the spacer over the top of coil... bad luck with those on my 150. No real problems but you can tell its beating the shit outta all my components.

I have had a body lift on my truck for 200 000 kms and i have also had a truck camper in the back aswell. I tow a 4500 pound eavestrough trailer 80% of the time. i have had zero issues. I havent done much research.. because i havent had to.. maybe someone can post a link to someone having problems with a body lift?
