Again it shouldn't matter if it's a 458 Ferrari or a Corolla, but in today's world it does. I've worked in enough shops (Collision repair) in my life, that I know shops treat "nice" cars better than appliances like beige Camry's and Forf Focus's.

Personally a set of aftermarket wheels on almost anything, should be an indication to any shop, or shop owner, this person is likely an enthusiast, and may go over their vehicle like a hawk when work is completed.

 Jokes aside, do they really go that far or do you think you got lucky? If so, I will let a Lexus do my tire/wheel work if I am nearly guaranteed it won't scratch.

If the people here aren't talking about noticeable scratches, then my bad on that. I did a lot of searching about rim scratching and I have only seen people talk about the face/edge (By edge I mean outermost part and probably most visible). Are we talking about parts not visible here?

Something done by a wheel weight is not a concern to me. However I do like to treat my truck like a show car when it comes to detailing. And I did not read any replies after I think 2nd page because I'm on the clock.

Shit the boot came off the front passenger drive axel @ 300 miles and grease went all over the shock, A arm and frame section they fixed to boot and clamp but left the grease all over everything….

I looked at that when they pulled the truck around and seen that I was like WTF are you kidding me come on. take it back in the shop put it on the lift spray some cleaner on it and clean it.

Look at the op he was complaining about nicks in the area around the lug nut area either from the socket used or from removing the center cap. That stuff is unavoidable simple as that.

It's not unavoidable, is called being careless with the socket end of an impact wrench. The operater probably uses more care texting away on their smartphone.

It's not dificult to back out or instal lug nuts, without playing bumper cars with the lug pattern opening. Like I said I'm a novice, and I can remove my lug nuts and wheel without causing zero damage.

Why it blows, is that if and when I want to upgrade my wheels. I'm going to take a huge loss because they are not pristine. I've sold enough wheels to know people turn into bed wetters and want to low ball the asking price, because the wheel face has a few imperfections.

I was planning on running these wheels, just until I could justify a set of TRD beadlocks. But now I'm stuck with them because of a little negligence.

Pretty much sez it all right here!!

I stopped by a tire dealer today "NTB Good Year" and the tech was slamming the impact into the lug nut well area like a tire changer at a NASCAR race I walked out…..

I will just get my tires off tire rack and sent to my shop of choice pay the extra few bucks to have it done right….

Peace of mind is worth less headaches….

It's written into the work instructions. Both the center cap and the wheel lock have specific clocking relative to the valve stem, for example:

You are expecting to much out of the work you are paying for. People installing your wheels at tire shops or fast lube aren't paid enough to care about your pristine wheels. If you are that anal about it take it to a custom tire shop.

THIS!!! Even at the Lexus dealer those jobs are given to the low man on the totem pole. Either its a kid making almost minimum wage, or a new "tech" that's drawing the shit jobs and trying to make up some time (they work on flat-rate hours). Flat rate means each job pays a certain number of hours. If you're the new guy the jobs suck and you'll be lucky to break even on time spent vs time paid. A set of tires or rotate and balance is considered gravy work at that level where you can actually brake even or even beat the clock. You better believe they're going as fast as they can. Especially on something as mundane as a Tacoma. When high dollar cars roll through the shop they figure the customer may be an egotistical, OCD, pretentious prick and they might slow down a bit. Still being the new guy or kid there's a high likelyhood of minor "damage". Tacoma? They figure they're cool and don't sweat as much.

    Be cool.

What's a "custom tire shop"? I searched for one, and one of the top hits was Discount Tire. Is Discount Tire a custom tire shop?

I have marks on my wheels from torque sticks. They don't come off. I've tried polish, solvents, soap, elbow grease, etc. The dealership did it on the first service. I'm buying alloy wheels and I want to know where I should go to have them mounted on my "street queen". :p

Something like this is local to me and they specialize in lifts and aftermarket wheels

I Google custom wheel shops and found a few in my area

Where ever you go tell the manager or service advisor what you expect before hand

Go to the bad part of town. Or the closest major city. You'll find custom rim shops that are accustomed to expensive pain in the ass wheels and unruly customers.

    Take a pistol.

Please this is a used car trade in Im doing I had a shit day today for hours so tomorrow its full speed ahead. Its a used car if I scratch it it got traded in that way.

Now last month on the other had I had to change the wheels on the Vice president of the dealerships fusion. I used all the same tools I always do impact gun standard impact sockets and there wasn't a smudge on it granted I was so worried about scratching it I forgot to put a tire pressure sensor back in lol but I fixed it before anyone noticed

So, you'll take pictures of the completed work after you scratch up those rims.... which is "simply unavoidable"?
