But isn't that exactly what it is designed to do? Combat vertical climb?

I think I can handle that with more training, so leaning more towards the brake.

Yes and no, it's meant to combat muzzle rise and make the gun shoot flat. What I mean when I say it pushes the muzzle down, is that it literally pushes the muzzle down to the point where you have to bring the muzzle up after your shot. Muzzle dip.

With both my surefire SFMB556 and pws FSC556 I shoot flat as a laser without having to compensate for muzzle rise or dip. Both setups are so good that I can shoot each with minimal support. Also they feel like absolutely nothing.

Yes, brakes are loud, but awesome.

I have an FSC on my "fighting rifles' because they have threads for my YHM suppressor. My competition rifle has an SJC. So I've shot both a lot. They aren't even in the same league. If I could mount my can to it, its all I would use. It doesn't cause the muzzle to dip it's just flat. Seriously, at the risk of sounding like a dick, forget what you think know. The only comp I know of that tends to make the muzzle dip is the STAG Arms. Any of the rest should be good to go. And as I've been ridiculed for saying before, go look at what the 3gunners are using. They're game revolves around keeping the gun flat and fast.

Compensator is meant to reduce muzzle flip and rise.

Muzzle brake is meant to reduce recoil or felt recoil.

Gotcha. That makes sense. Think I would rather risk annoying the guy next to me on the line in exchange for suppressed recoil and quicker follow-ups.

Would these devices even be allowed in competition? Seems like an unfair advantage. Or maybe not illegal, just frowned upon and everyone gives you the stink eye.

I see a bit of dip in a few of the examples in the article. I'm not arguing that compensators are better or worse, the ones I've used, I did really like.

I mean this whole thing is really mostly opinion. Both my brakes shoot flat and reduce felt recoil, and you are certainly correct about 3-gunners.

They are allowed in 3-gun. It's all about being fast and accurate. Compensators are part of the game.

Its a drag race with guns. You can't even be competitive without one. (Unless you're one of the greats in the game)

I'm fairly new to this, but would adding a muzzle device require gunsmith installation? Or do you simply screw them on with a new crush washer?

Yeah I've shot a gun without a muzzle device because NY. Never again.

Don't need a gunsmith unless it has to have a pin + weld. Other than that, remove the old, install new with either shims or crush washer.

Was gonna call PSA again today to give them the FFL info for my lower I ordered but I checked my emails and they emailed me about it, I should have my lower in the next few weeks, the I need to order a LPK and pistol grip.

I'd like a better trigger than the milspectriggers but I don't need/want a fancy one, what are y'all's thoughts on a trigger for a hunting gun (longest range will be ~400 yards)

Yeah, couldn't resist. Looks like I'm going with a carbine gas system vs. my originally planned mid or rifle length system. Can't beat the price and I'll do something with the savings from my original plan :D
