This thread is amusing. Lets justify someones lack of consideration to others property. I don't see why anyone believes it is OK to scratch rims up when changing tires or mounting the weights. You damage it, you pay. Sooner or later you will either train the employee properly, or you will continue to suffer the consequences of customer dissatisfaction.

My truck will be going in for a rotation and balance. The weights are on the outside of the rim from the factory. I will request weights on the inside only. If the rims are damaged Toyota will replace rims.

Sooner or later a mount and balance will cost $400 to offset the cost of people demanding new rims everytime a wheel weight scratches a rim

Read. He's bitching about the nicks left from bang on wheelweights. Not from the lugnut removal.

People should have bought donk instead of a Tacoma. I've never seen grown men so worried about nicks on their wheels.

I can never get our clip on weights to go on toyota wheels they have a larger outer lip than most cars.

Also I just finished lunch so I am starting on those Edge 22" tires

I used to have a a boss that was OCD. It was difficult to please him. He noticed any little imperfections , mars, dings scratches he noticed .that was on a brand new appliance truck. I know where your comming from and why you care so much if I could afford a brand new truck I would want to keep it as nice as possible . If you have a second vehicle suv, truck I'd bring wheels in sometimes doing it yourself may be a headache. Even experienced techs have mishaps that is part of the mechanical field. They usually but not always get paid a flat rate on each Job if it says 2 hours takes them 3 customer pays for 2. This is one reason things get done fast and if they are not anal, careless. And in most shops lighting is fairly poor and for them to see scratches on dark wheels it makes it easy to miss.Wheels are probably what you are going to see damaged on a regular basis. They are taken off for brakes, rotation, tire repair, shocks struts all kinds of repairs. So unless you start doing most of that yourself I'd get used to the fact your wheels will get scratched.

The guys working in the shop probably sat around on break and laughed when they heard about the complaint. Most guys who work at shops have nice cars and care about customer service. It feeds their business.

How is it okay to have your rims damaged by other peoples neglect acceptable? Just because someone is a careless hack doesn't mean we should all reduce our standards to theirs.

If I installed a $30,000 prefinished front door on your home and scratched and dented it putting the lockset on. Would that be considered acceptable as the door will eventually get scratched by somebody at some point so I obliged and did it first.

So my truck went to the dealer for the rotation. Naturally, since the weights were located on the outside of the rim the dealership questioned why they were. They did not want to balance since they knew taking the weights off would damage the rims. I requested balance and rotation and weights on inside only. So now I have damage on the outside lip of rims as the weights cut through clearcoat.

Assuming you have stock wheels they came from the factory with clip on weights. The dealership isnt going to give you new wheels because they took the old ones off

If the door was installed by you and you nicked it I'd expect it to be fixed. But that would be before that door is sold to me. After that door is installed and I pay for it and I scratch it .that door is mine I wouldn't expect you to fix my fuck up. All I can say is take pictures before you bring your vehicle in and if you see a scratch after work is done show them the before picture. Tell them you want a discount they would probably be happy to give you the discount so you won't badmouth their business and prevent other customers from comming in. I used to deliver appliances. They are awkward and heavy houses aren't all perfect setup for delivering to so I have scratched a few door jams and appliances. I'd offer to call boss about possible percentage off bill. Most customers were happy with it 10% off for scratch on fridge you won't ever see he'll yeah ...but it's brand new it's what they paid for a flawless appliance . In the end most businesses will fo through hassle to keep you comming if they don't they aren't a good business to be repeat customer.
