Finally settled on a lift (I think) thoughts?

So after much research here and else where I think Ive decided on a lift. Ive got a 06 TRD Off Road double cab prerunner with an ARE camper on the back. trucks got 126k miles on it and Ive decided since I wont be getting a new one anytime soon time to spruce it up a bit.

the extent of my off roading is the beach or a fire road out in the woods no mudding or rock climbing and this is my everyday driver 44miles a day so I want to keep a halfway decent ride. I'm also wanting to keep this under 1K not including tires.

As for tires I'm going with Cooper Discover AT3 SUV P265/75R16 (these are P rated not the LT AT3)

I'm prettyu sure this is the lift I want. Its in my price range no diff drop and the front top spacers with the 2" aal

but other than the 5100 shocks is there any other benefit to it over this one? with the spacers and 2"aal

Are you planning on keeping the stock shocks if you go with the second option?

 

1st one will fit your needs more and is best bang for $

I want to raise the truck a little call it a mall crawler if you want without spending over a grand is there a better option?

 

How much lift are you looking to go for? and you do NOT want to keep the stock shocks.... they are horrible and top out real hard with stock suspension... throw in an AAL and its going to be horrible.

You can definitely save some money if you stick with the stock coils. I run 5100's up front with stock TRD OR coils at 1.75 and the ride is nice, also added a wheelers 2 in single AAL (and OME N182 shocks in the rear) and a 1/4in top plate spacer on the driver side and the ride is the perfect firm.

Either way 4 5100's, 1/4 top plate spacer, 2in single AAL runs $415 at wheelers off road.

Now if you plan on doing more lift than yeah the stock coils at 2.5in are going to be stiff and thats where you need new coils... you are also going to have a HARD time getting alignment into spec at 2+ in of lift in the front.

 

I was under the impression that you get alignment issues over 3 in. If that's not the case how high can I go without putting ucas in?

Would the 4 5100s stock coils and aal be better then?

 

2.5"+ it is recommended you get new UCA's

You are going to be real close at 2-2.5in of lift at the max adjustment for alignment, and even then you are going to have a caster spec thats not ideal. 3inch, no way you are going to get that aligned properly with stock UCA's.

 

So it sounds like the 5100s and the aal are the better option for what I'm looking for. What setting would I use the on the front?

 

I have this lift been almost on for a year now. You'll like it, mine is set up for 3 inches. Im running stock ucas and in spec minus right caster ever so slightly. tires are wearing beautifully. yes it is more difficult to get it in spec with stock ucas at 3 inches but it can be done contrary to what some know it alls on here will say. just find a good shop that is experienced with lifted trucks when you go to get it aligned.

 

Wrong, mine is all in spec with this lift at 3 inches with stock UCA's. Right caster is a smidge off, everything else in spec. Depends on who you take it to and how much work they are willing to put into getting in spec.

 

wait he's a pre runner.. I'm not very bright on lifts and such, but I thought pre runner and 2wd guys can do mantric spindles which are much cheaper?? Atleast thats what I've read....?

 

I have access to an alignment machine and Ford certified in suspension and chassis.

yeah you will get toe and camber in spec, but your caster will be at or below the low end spec which will make the truck feel very wandery down the highway .

Its not the matter of a shop that knows what they are doing, its the matter that there just is only so much adjustment on the lower control arm to change the camber / caster.

But hey if you want to top out your upper ball joints and have a truck that wanders down the highway.... go for a 3in lift on stock UCA's

 

Yeah I did a quick search on those spindle lifts and defiantly not cheaper.


OK so if I want to avoid the UCA and alignment issue stay 2inches or under

5100s all around fronts set at??? and a 2inch aal
