Yet another Coastie here... but not in Aviation like many of the others above. I'm a GM (Gunner's Mate.) Basically I deal with guns, ammo, and pyro. At my current unit I'm also an instructor, and teach M240B, M2HB, and Mk19. 14+ years.

I've worked on the avionics on the Harrier jet for 15+ years now. Here's a picture I took a while back on a deployment.

I worked on the EA-6B "Prowler". She may be ugly, but I loved working on them! After I finish up this tour teaching A-school I'm headed back to the fleet to work on the EA-18G "Growler".

I see civilian contractor mechanic's working for NAVAIR come in and do specialty jobs all the time. Some L3 guys worked side by side with active duty sailors, working eight hour shifts five days a week. Some of them do have military backgrounds others are just guys that have their A&P License and got jobs with the companies. Nothing like working in the line shack for $20-$30 dollars an hour!:D

I'm pretty sure they have all been retired now and replaced with the CV-22 Osprey.
