I can't really tell if he grabbed it or not. Anything could have happened ward could have stumbled on a dirt clod and fell into the car how fast do you think the 45 and tony's were doing at that point.

Reporters are taking things tony said out of context and making him look like a vicious killer. Unsuspecting public who know nothing about racing will rush to judgment on these type of things.

    But....but...But....:pout:

How is it "clearly" coming from his car? I will go so far as to say this, perhaps Tony did throttle a little, since it is done to steer and he was in a turn, but the sound heard on the VIDEO was NOT his car. THAT is clear.

Yeah, it is unusual to say the least. We call can speculate a lot on this for sure. I am thinking from watching that slow motion video a lot, that for WHATEVER reason, Kevin had a hold of Tony's wing. And after seeing the movement of the car, and what little we can see of Kevin, that it looks like Kevin's foot got snagged under the rear tire, and Kevin was not able to hold on to the wing any longer, and fell right down into the tire. Obviously I am no video forensic scientist, but that is my perception from the video anyway. Everyone else has their own.
What really gets me is the closed mindedness of so many people ready to crucify Tony before the actual POLICE can finish their investigation. I mean everyone knows that you steer by throttle on these cars. Everyone knows that Tony was in the middle of a turn on the track. So why is it suddenly Tony trying to "scare" or "intimidate" Kevin? Even OTHER DRIVERS WHO WERE ON THE TRACK have said that from what they saw, (and face it, the other drivers could see a lot better than people in the stands) that Tony was trying to AVOID Kevin, not hit him. But no, everyone just automatically was trying to do something malicious. Granted, Tony has been a big hot-head, but since he started owning teams he has come down a bit. And to say that he is the biggest hothead is way off base. What about Kyle Busch? He should have been parked for the rest of his CAREER for this move, but NOTHING happened.

Oh, and you asked about speed? Caution speed was 40 MPH at that track.

How does anyone know that the rev came from Tony's car? Could have been another car. Drivers do that all the time under caution testing another line looking for more bite. Even if he did gas the car it was to get it to turn. At 35 to 40 mph sprint cars will need help to turn.

I will be curious what the 2nd video of the accident shows.

Exactly, that's why I pointed out you can't be sure either. The investigation will reveal what happened. Hopefully for Ward, Tony and the sports sake it was 100% an accident.

From everything I've seen, it's hard to tell what exactly happened and hopefully it'll get ironed out in the near future. It's a horrible situation regardless though.

The lack of journalism is beyond belief with this accident. I have read some very uneducated stories from various journalist who do not understand dirt racing or racing in general. Most have no idea what a sprint car is or how they work. One article even referred to it as a funny car. WTF?

This is one of the few educated articles I have seen.

Everything I can see points to tragic accident. Tony didn't wipe out Ward...he ran high on the track in a turn and Ward didn't back off...hitting the wall.

    Fault one..Ward.

Ward then got out of his car and tried to instigate a fight on an open race track..almost getting hit once or twice before getting tangled in Tony's car.

    Fault two...Ward.

The track is lit..but let's face it..it's a podunk dirt track ( only about 18 miles from my house ). It isn't overwhelmingly lit...Ward was in a black suit and black helmet.I'm guessing Tony never saw him til the last second...tried to avoid him..and wasn't successful. The throttle blip could be him trying to steer clear....or even an OH SHIT reaction hitting the throttle as well as the clutch and brake ( if that sound was even Tony's car ).

What I don't quite understand is how you can take the things Tony Stewart has done, or said, in the NASCAR circus and apply it to what happens in sprint cars. Trust me, it is not the same. On the dirt tracks of America, Tony Stewart doesn't intentionally wreck cars, doesn't throw helmets, doesn't punch photographers. He shows up, he does what media is required of him, he races, he goes home. To the people who know sprint cars, he is no more controversial than any one else. If you want controvesy in that arena, there's more drama with Sammy Swindell or JJ Yeley or Kyle Larson than Tony Stewart. Jezus, if you ever saw Steve Kinser in his prime on a bull ring....

Everybody news flash update, inside sources say.. This whole incident was actually a combined effort of multiple Cell phone, Alcohol Beverage, and Insurance companys to bring awareness to texting while drinking and driving... The supposed Ward was actually a stunt man and old unnammed sprint car driver, which is doing fine at his home in Dallas.

I think you just hit the nail on the head. Step back for a moment and forget about road rage, and look for factors which lead up to this tragic event. I'm not talking about Stewart bumping Ward early in the race; I'm talking about the complete lack of safety procedures at podunk tracks. No one wants to blame the "sport" but it's time to take a hard look at Sprint Cars and dirt tracks.

Once long I ago, I got the opportunity to work security for the St Pete Grand Prix. It was an interesting job and I did it for two seasons. One thing we learned was that no one ever walked on a hot track. If a driver got out of his car, we stopped the race. DEAD. No moving cars. It was a mess to get them all going again (most stalled on the track), but no one ever got hurt or killed. Heck, we even stopped it when a squirrel ran on the track. Maybe that was an overreaction, but again err on the side of safety.

These days, small dirt tracks won't stop the race if a herd of buffalo roam onto the track (ok, over exaggeration) , but you get the sense that they want an accident. Allowing a human to be on the track with moving race cars is a recipe for disaster. And the caution flag is a misnomer. The cars are still moving and the drivers are even more distracted (they use the caution as the time to check around their car).

When Ward left his car the race officials should have throw a red flag and stopped every car on the track. Anything else should be considered criminal negligence. End of story.
