Link or elaborate please? or pics?

I was thinking of doing just that. Swapping out as needed. Had the MAF issue with my stock setup. Sand and wet. Wasn't pretty.\

edit: Guess your referring to these/
    ?

Is that the exact one you have? Just tinted?

that's it.... you see the 10" has the 3" and 3.75" inlets... the 3" would be best with the safari and 3.75" for the airflow

i took the nightshade tint i had when i did my taillights and used that on the clear window of the precleaner

I have plenty of times last season. I am telling you that hood was designed for more airflow but just doesn't keep water out like the smaller Safari design. So yeah if you go Aiirflow and live in a wet climate a Donaldson is most likely needed. My experience so far with the Safari is that you can run open hood in all conditions without shit getting wet that shouldn't be wet.

I wish there was a way to measure how much that Donaldson restricts air flow. Not saying it's a drastic amount but it has to reduce it some. I wonder if it puts you on par with a Safari open hood in terms of volume?

No matter what both set up provide more air flow over stock. For the way we wheel now maximizing that amount for engine performance isn't necessary. Throw a Super Charger on our truck then I will say the Air Flow snorkel is better suited for that with the open hood. Just don't drive in heavy rain or snow. :p

    max Airflow CFM per Donaldson

    10.63" w/ 3" inlet = 320
    10.63" w/ 3.75" inlet = 330

not sure how to compare that to anything though :D

    edit:

CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute

i suppose i could take some readings off the ultragauge with the two setups and see the difference at the MAF

I wonder if we could use a wind measurement tool at the snorkel opening. Not certain if it would be accurate but it might be fun to see. Problem is our engines are not the same. You have more mods on yours an that could affect the measurement.

Your Scangauge measures the airflow past the MAF in CFM's right? What is that reading typically say if you recall? My Ecoroute tool measures in oz/s but I found a converter online.

Mr.TRD has the Safari and threw the TRD S/C on there and it can't get enough air... He disconnected the snorkel under the hood just so the engine can get enough air when he puts the pedal down. It still has the stock pulley on it too.

I am not familiar with the install, but he said there is some sort of a rubber hose in there and that it will start to pinch off because the S/C is sucking so hard. Not sure if that is with his TRD intake or his OEM intake that I think he switched back to.

airflow claims it'll have enough air for a S/C...question would be, will it still have enough with the precleaner...i think it will

maybe if you mod the S/C setup more then you'll need more air, but if i get a S/C, i wouldn't go too crazy on the setup...don't need to break shit on the trails :D

had the volant setup...was thinking about mod'ing that to work with the snorkel, but the stock airbox saves alot on space

sold the volant and picked up a stock box for dirt cheap

I recently threw an OEM air filter back in to replace my AFE pro dry. It's stops the sand and shit but still lets a lot of dirt and dust past it... I'm hoping the OEM will be a better filter. If you have the snorkel paired with the AFE you may be ok.

Thought of using aluminum pipe for the routing of the snorkel fittings in the engine bay?

I could see that on the safari snorkel. That rubber union is really soft and flexible. The Airflow snorkel that Bob has hooks up to the stock intake pipe differently with a more rigid but still flexible pipe. You woud need to change that rubber union on the Safari snorkel and then it MIGHT work.
K&N replaced twice under warranty? You have a dry one or a wash and oil one? I am running that now and just clean it about 3 to 4 times a year with the Safari Snorkel on.

Already did. I still eat lots of dirt and sand. I'm beginning to think that the cowl isn't much safer than the fender... At least it doesn't suck in mud and water off the tire though. Aluminum soaks up lots and lots of heat though... The whole time Moab I routinely saw intake temps well over 130* since it soaks up all the heat from the engine bay. Basically defeating the purpose of a CAI...

I consider running custom tubing in AL. Instead ended up creating at pipe from parts I got at the local auto parts store. Actually not a bad product. Each section has a rubber gasket to make it air tight. I have had it on for about 10 months now with no issues. Temps stay lower then the exhaust pipe I used to run on there.

Now, I like that. Exactly what I was referring to. Just a cleaner setup. Any intel on the actual parts? Approximate cost?
