Nice! I bet you'll wish you still lived in Stoughton at the end of the game.

Got my new scope for the Remington in the mail yesterday :yay:
I still was using the crappy factory scope (probably a Chinese no-name special with a Remington sticker on it) even though the optical clarity was a little sub-par. It was accurate enough when it was new, but I don't know if I knocked it against something this past season or what, but it wasn't holding zero anymore. The last three times I shot it the zero had moved vertically 1-3 inches at 100 yards (totally unacceptable, since the Remington is the gun I carry when I'm in one of my cornfield treeseats, and some of the shots I've taken from those have been out past 200-250 yards). So I stripped it off and ordered this one:
    http://www.bushnell.com/all-products/rifle-scopes/banner/3-9x-40mm,-cf-500-reticle

Haven't put it on the gun yet; that's on the docket for this weekend, along with taking it out to the range and zeroing it. But I like my first impression of it. Feels solid in my hand, and the illuminated reticle should come in handy, since I've taken probably 3/4 of my deer in either the first or last hour of daylight.

    Mornin' all.

Looks like a nice scope, Noel. I need to find 2 for a couple of mine although I think one might just end up getting a red dot (and I need to finish building it before I worry about optics )

AR build. I want to put a scope on my Mosin but need to figure out a mount first, then find a long eye relief scope that's within a reasonable budget for that rifle. The AR build is a flat top so I'll get back up iron sights first, then go with a non-magnified red dot or similar, haven't quite decided yet since I'm still figuring out how I want this thing to end up. Finally bought a barrel this week so that made a lot of decisions for me.

    Thanks!
I'm thinking about a red dot for my 887, but I think they're ugly on a hunting rifle.

    Thanks!
It's no Leupold, but I'm not a good enough shot to really take advantage of a $400 scope. Bushnell's a good enough brand for little ol' me.

For the Mosin I would just stick with the classic original mount, before you get your

never been a fan of red dots......batteries fail and I am just one of those guys who feels you just cant beat a great set of iron sights....and besides being la right handed left eye dominant shooter I can never get a quality sight picture and that even with me using my left eye

It's no Leupold, but I'm not a good enough shot to really take advantage of a $400 scope. Bushnell's a good enough brand for little ol' me

take a look at Redfire scopes, I have one on my Ruger American half the cost of Leupold and its made by Leupold

I thought that Redfire only did scopes for the Mosins? That's all I've ever seen them on, at least.

I'm a left-eye dominant righty as well. Took a lot of training with a smudge of vaseline on the left lense of my shooting glasses for my right eye to take over when I'm scoping.

Drifting back over to red dots for a minute; Don't they have a red dot on the market now that has a 50,000 hour battery life? I think I saw it reviewed in G&A a year or so ago.

What do you mean the classic mount? Brass Stackers makes 2, one attaches just to the rear sight, the other attaches to the rear sight and also the recoil lug (but since I have an aftermarket stock, that would require drilling a hole). A gunsmith could drill and tap a mount also or I could completely remove the rear sight to expose the dove tail and mount to that.

I completely agree with you on the iron sights. I believe you should learn to shoot iron sights first, then go with the aid of a red dot. I will get a quality set of iron sights first, I'm looking at the Magpul Pro BUS because I have a flat top upper and do not want to use a gas block sight for the front (going low-profile so I can use a longer hand rail).
