Wondered if I could get some input. I have an 07 TRD Sport Access Cab 6 spd and I love it. Everything but the gas mileage. In the city I get about 15-16mpg and max 21 on the highway but sometimes as low as 19mpg.

I'm considering getting a dual cab in the future (I would like to keep a red sport 6 speed) but am concerned about the mileage. Does anyone here have the v6 dual cab 6 speed that can weigh in?

I sure wish they made hybrid or diesel tacomas. I'd be all over that.

6-speed has a really poor OD gear ratio. .85 vs .72 on the automatic. If you plan on driving fast the automatic is the better choice. Unfortunately.

and even then.... 70+ mph your not going to hit +20mpg's ... your looking like 18-19mpg on the hwy at 70+ mph in my DCSB v6 auto 4x4 all stock.

Drop that speed to 60-65 and your looking at 21-23mpg.

The 5 speed is slightly higher than the 6, with a .81 OD. Combined with my 3.31 final gearing comes to exactly 2,000rpm @ 60 mph which is great for freeway driving.

Here are the 2014 Toyota mileage ratings for each transmission:

    21/25 (5-speed manual)

    18/20 (5-speed manual 4x4)

    19/24 (4-speed automatic)

    18/21 (4-speed automatic 4x4)

    16/21 (6-speed manual

    4x2/PreRunner)

    15/19 (6-speed manual 4x4)

    17/21 (5-speed automatic)

    16/21 (5-speed automatic 4x4)

I know I'm getting what I'm supposed to, I don't over rev it, I just was curious how much it would would drop with the dual cab. Suprised the auto is so much better, damn.

I have an 07 TRD Sport Access cab Automatic.... and although, I haven't checked it lately.... I get approximately 18mpg in summer and around 16mpg in winter (with mixed highway/city driving going 65mph on highway.

I have noticed (and I don't know why) but when I take longer drives on backroads going 40-45mph - the truck gets the best mileage I've ever seen (over 20mph).

The truck is rated for 16-18mpg.

14 Dbl Cab Auto, I'm getting what you see in my signature. But, that's with 80% of my daily commute stuck in LA traffic. I'm thinking I can easily hit 18/19 mpg if it was all highway.

I did not check the specs, but from what I remember there is only a couple hundred pound difference between AC and DC. (At least in comparison to DCSB which mine is.)

Ain't that much better seems like the only hit is in the city so much for better highway mileage with the higher gearing. Seems like the 6 spd. puts the RPM right in the sweet spot. I have never gone as low as 16 MPG even in the dead of winter granted there isn't much city where I live but short trips hit the mileage harder than city driving.

What's the best rpm range for the 6 speed? In 5th or 6th gear
