I was wondering how many people on here work on cars for a living. And do you work at a dealership or an aftermarket shop. Myself i work at a Cadillac dealership unfortunately and im not a fan of GM products.

 

i work at a plain old auto shop

 

I worked at a Cadillac-Chevy dealer in '00 and then an independent shop a couple of years later. I prefer the dealer b/c you get very familar with the maintenance and troubleshooting procedures, which in turn makes you faster, which means more money (stub-time).

I have since swithed to IT and am very happy. Especially at the rate of Dealership closings right now.

 

Isn't that sad! I worked at the GM Desert Proving Grounds and yeah, we had some pretty cool non production beasts but production stuff was pretty damn boring! On my time off I hung at a friend's shop that worked on foreign race and street cars. Most guys that work at bike shops have a different story though - they enjoy their work I think a bit more due to test drives... different club.

 

i'm a former caddilac tech and will be again after my deployment.as far as gm products go theregetting better every year.i hear everyone on these forums not just toyota say how bad gm is,but if you look you will see just as many problems with the japanese cars.just calling it how i see it others may not agree.

 

I can see that they are getting better.

My only gripe is how much GM's executive's heads are up their own asses. And I have spent a good amount of time in executive management so I not doing the us and them thing. The executives were so friggin focused on short term bonuses that they lost sight of the business that they were in. They'll argue that the unions were their problem and maybe they were - but the executives had a say in the negotiations.

The bottom line is that it is truly sad that imports, built in the US have taken so much market share! And I blame the leaders of the US companies for poor leadership skills!

 

i admit the new cadillac products are very nice but im not a fan of working on them cause they are alot different to other cars. My dealership used to be a cadillac jeep dealer and i went there for jeep and we lost our jeep a few months ago.

 

I work at a Mack/Volvo Trucks dealership, does that count?

 

i hear you on that it takes getting used to working on them.give it some time and it will become second nature to you.i left caddy for a while and went to lexus and hated it i went back to caddy and was much more happy.i saw just as mant problems with lexus than caddy.i guess it is all what you get used to working on.good luck with the caddies and wait till you get to drive a cts-v and it kind of makes it all worth it.
