33/10.5 tires

I want to put a nice size tire on my 4 banger with out putting to much stress on my engine and trans. I seen one 4cyl with 33/12.5 but he said he is down grading to 32"s to get better gas mileage. Just curious if anyone had 33/10.5 tires. Do you guys think these would be to big for our little 4 bangers? Thanks MIKE

I also just found a 33/9.5 tire. I didnt even know they made them. Whats the width on the stock tires anyone know?

 

my o8 is 245 75 r 16 aka 9.6" by 30.5. If you 4whl a lot, 33 might be ok, but for no real loss at the axle ,those 32s sound better, or the 22x 9.5

 

im running 285/75/16's on my 4 cylinder and don't see to much of a loss in perfrormance/gas mileage. This is 33 inches high, but 11.13 or something wide

 

haha. glad you asked this question, im about to buy new tires tomorrow, and am still trying to decide wether to go 265/75/16 or 285/75/16, although Im not concerned with gas mileage, im gonna be putting the tires on the stock rims, and am not sure if that 285's will clear that lil bump coming off the link between the upper control arm and the tie rod??? any one here done this???

 

Your going to have to update us on what tires you buy tomorrow and if they rub. Good Luck I say go with the 285 75 16s

 

I have seen plenty of first generation 4cyl tacomas run 33's with no problem. I just havent seen any 2nd generation 4cyl tacomas do it.

 

hehe, yeh, I dunno, friends with the guy installing them, Im almost tempted to go there tomorrow after work and have him throw a used 285/75/16 tire on just to so I can rotate the wheel and check for rubbing, I checked that the 285 will be an extra 20mm from 265, so I figure 10mm on each side right, and the 265 have 15mm of clearance between the tire and UCAs, which is my main concern for rub~! Will probably have to buy him a case of beer to get him to do that, but we will see, im back and forth in my mind!
