Haha it sure looks like I did - the roots for that vine spread laterally in one direction and burned everything while they took it in.

    Pretty nasty stuff though.

    Very nice!

Did you actually use Roundup on that or something stronger? I've got woods that back up to my property and I'm considering killing all of the vines and small plants back there to make a sitting area around our huge oak tree. I know they make brush killer but I hate using too much chemical if I can keep from it.

I used the Roundup Poison Ivy Tough Brush Killer and painted the straight concentrate right onto the cut vine (about the size of a soda can). One application did that. I mixed a 150% solution into a bottle to kill some low patches of poison ivy around the perimeter and it did the trick with one application. Just know even the 150% solution killed everything it touched. Nothing stands a chance.

This is what my back yard backs up too. All different types of plants, ivy, you name it, it's probably back there. I could (and probably should) wait until winter and take a chainsaw back there and clear out most of what I can and then kill the rest next spring. Not like i'm in a big hurry anyway. The land behind our houses in our neighborhood is owned by FEDEX and is close to 300 acres. They have already said they plan on doing nothing with it. I would like to clear off about 50' and make a nice shaded sitting area. Nothing special in case they decide they want to do something with it I've lost nothing. But just something to give a little barrier between the woods and my yard.

    Ok..Updated pics:

The big green un-ruley bush on in the middle(on the corner) is actually a lemon tree with tons of lemons on it...so that is why it isn't pruned nicely.

And I even have a fire plug right on the corner..it didn't come out in any of the pics.

I love my corner lot...it is elevated on the main intersection in the middle of my neighborhood, so I have a great view. But I really really hate having a slopped driveway. I don't really care for the exterior of my house, with the 80's style angle rooftop, but...it is 100% brick, extremely well made custom home.....but I got it as a foreclosure many years ago before that was a common thing.

Quite honestly.... You need to speak to your insurance agent and tell him you have a hydrant in your yard. Insurance rates are adjusted (at least here) by distance from the fire station and water supply. You may get a slight break on your rate.

I did. I always heard the same thing, and apparently...it is an Urban Myth here.

Mowed today. Here is a better pic of my backyard. Had to use the panorama feature to get it all.

Ah... that sucks. I've got one in my neighbors yard and a fire station less than a mile from me. My insurance on a 2301 SQ FT $240,000 house is slightly over $800 per year with a $750 deductible. Our ISO rating is Class 2.

Beautiful. I mowed a couple days ago and we just had a hell of a rain storm blow up. More coming. It has Never been this way since we moved in 8 years ago. In fact I was just getting ready to run to Home Depot to pick up 2 tripod sprinklers since mine have about had it and it started pouring down rain. No trip to HD today :)

My better half and I both took off work today . Trimmed front shrubs, weeded in between all those shrubs/bushes cleaned all that crap out and then laid weed blocker mesh all around and put out mulch. To be honest we are both ready for maintenance free dwelling. With the money we spent and our time we could have went to the beach for a few days and really enjoy ourselves.

It's funny you say that. I can retire in a little over 7 years (I'll be 50) and we are moving to Colorado. We have already started the process of getting our ducks in a row and the "plan" is to buy either a condo (not ideal) or a patio home and let someone else take care of the property. Then I can do whatever "I" want to do. I love working in the yard and having a nice yard and house but like you said... the money spent could be used for other things.

If we get to move where we want to we will only have one vehicle because we will be able to walk everywhere we want to go. So we will be downsizing everything. But we will still most likely have a Tacoma as long as they don't fuck it up.

Ya we have struggled with "will we miss a yard/garden/flower beds" etc if we move to a patio or condo home but then after yesterday we both thought heck no we won't miss this. retiring at 50 I'm jeolous

    Nice job man!

Lawn service company killed my yard about 4 years ago. Had to replace the entire yard. My wife and I laid 20 pallets of sod in 1.5 days.

    It sucked

My backyard is looking tip top right now and I had to show it off (we've got an unusual amount of steady rain over the summer for once). This is St. Augustine grass, btw. This is serious bragging rights to have a lawn this green in South Texas this late in the summer.

Very nice! I'm in the same boat as you. We have had a unusual amount of rain this year. I've only watered the yard 2 times so far and that has never happened since I've been here.
