Made some more of these. Mixed the cheese with pineapple this time. Aren't they called Devil Turds or something like that?

So, I'm trying to figure out how to cook with almost no tools, and what tools I have are, frankly, shit.

My buddy has been a lifesaver in opening his home to me, and I won't say word one to him about the state of his 'kitchen', but...he's a longtime bachelor and doesn't cook much.

I've gotten damned spoiled with the All Clads and such back in Florida, so working with $13 T-Fals from Target.

So, I whipped up a quick salad to get me through the afternoon...fresh mushrooms, cukes, tomatoes, some sweet ham and fresh grated sharp cheddar to go over crisp romaine. A single tablespoon of buttermilk ranch, just to give a thin tangy kick rather than being gloppy...

Now that I've got some energy, let's get to work...

More shrooms and a diced vidalia onion; a nicely marbled NY Strip, brought to room temp and given a simple seasoning of kosher salt, fresh black pepper, and some Old Bay (try this some time, really good!)

Brown up the shrooms and onions...

Now we very, very carefully pan sear the steak. This gas stove isn't quite tweaked right with the O2 mix, and it's hotter than it should be, so I'm wingin' it as we go here....

DAMN do I miss my All Clad, I got almost no fond to work with making the sauce here...

Check the steak after a rest...OK, good, I didn't fuck it up too badly

Aaaand plated just in time for kickoff of the Pack/Rams game, with teriyaki noodles and mixed veggies!

Glad to see I'm not TOTALLY hosed in the kitchen!

Looks good! Check out the Ikea 365 stainless steel pans and also Sur La Table's line of stainless cookware, heavier bottoms than Walmart and more affordable than AllClad.

I think tonight I'm going to do cheddar stuffed burger on the grill with a pretzel bun, onion and avocado.

Sadly, there is surprising lack of decent retail around OKC. No Ikea, no Sur La Table, no club stores save shitty Sams Club, and only one single Williams Sonoma within 150 miles :(

we call em ABTs (Atomic Buffalo Turds).
the way i make them is to fill them with cream cheese, top with cooked breakfast sausage or little smokies, sprinkle on some cayenne pepper, wrap with bacon, shake on some bbq rub, and cook em low and slow

All have mail order. You can order online at IKEA even. SLT and Williams Sonoma.both ship from the store if you go that route and just order from your nearest store. You can do it!

Yea, yea, I know. But I like being able to go to the store and time it to get good deals from the local store manager to avoid return charges...you can get silly good deals that way.

The first All Clad 10 piece set we got is normally 799.

We got ours for 389 because the manager was two items from clearing a goback fee from corporate.

Yep. But that would require me to give business to Walmart, which I have sworn to never do again ever.

But, yes, the cast iron is coming next week, I found a local source for good prices.
