    Hey guys..

How long do you guys wait in every oil change??

In the past they recommended every 3000 milles, but, where I got my truck, they said that every 5000 milles should be ok!! Is that true??

    What do u guys think?

Every 5,000 is default and fine. Every 5k miles is pretty short nowadays... most new cars (I don't know about other trucks) are anywhere between 5-15k miles. I always changed my old cars' oil every 5k too. I'm pretty sure the 3k mile interval is promoted by Jiffy Lube for more business!

Even every 5K with dino oil is fine. Oil manufactured these days is much more different when compared to the days of your dad or grandfather. More additives are added these days compared to way back when. Just follow what it states in the manual and do it at the specified intervals and your truck will bring you years of service.

Toyota recommends every 5000 miles but I will be changing mine every 3500 miles with a mobil synthetic blend.

I just made the switch to synthetic. I will check it after 5K, if it still looks good then change it every 7,500.

Looks can be deceiving. The only way to truly know if the oil is still good is to do an oil analysis.

The old "3000 mile" figure that we all went by is a carry over from the '50s and earlier when non-detergent oil was the norm. ND oil doesn't suspend the micro particles of sludge like today's more efficient detergent oils do. The sludge (particles) would just adhere to the bearings and other parts. Those old motors would wear out in 1/3rd the time these newer motors do. A car using ND oil back then was about ready for the scrap yard at 60,000 miles.

The Toyota manual recommends every 5,000miles.

05+ trucks have an *idiot* light in your dash that will flash at you after 4,500 miles and stay on constant at 5,000 or more. If you need to know how to reset this idiot light - you can read it in the manual or search this forum.

I change mine anywhere inbetween 4500 and 5500 depending on my work schedule and the time to get it done. I also run synthetic and toyota filters.

Do you guys consider the Toyota brand oil filter a must, or do you use FRAM, Bosch, STP, etc? If you do, what brand?

I agree that modern conventional oil should handle 5k mile intervals just fine, but does anybody have a suggestion as to which brand of oil is best?

Change Your Oil Often And Dont Spend Money On Synthetic. Every Three Thousand Is My Opinion. If You Do This The Oil You Use Is Irrelevant. Told To Me By Many Car Mechanics (in The Last Five Years)

Factory filter is made really good. Do a search for "bob is the oil guy". I belive he tested some filters and showed that fram sucks.

What I usually do is take it to the dealership and get it done there, but they put on that sticker that the next change will be in 300 milles.

I dont even know what kind of oil or filters do they use there...:S

I use Mobil 1 synthetic and still change every 3k. Some may say its a waste of money but I call it ....a good security feeling.

Mine will be changed every 3K-4.5K miles...

Dollar for dollar changing your oil is one of the best things you can do to prolong the life of any engine.
