Very true. I stand corrected; he may have felt a bump.

Either way, it's never a good idea to be standing in front of a Sprint car.
Especially if it's dark, muddy and you are wearing all black with the number 13 on your race suit.

This is the best article on Tony Stewart and how he's percieved in sprint car racing I've seen.

Another person that gets it. You forgot to mention 10 tear offs packed together with dirt/ mud and some poor dirt track lighting. He may have been reaching for a tear off and then he heard the thump.

Stewart is just as normal as can be in the pits at a smaller race. Bumped into him a few times at Ft Wayne racing indoors and you would never know he was anybody special if he wasn't wearing a Mobil 1 suit. He wouldn't ever hit anybody on purpose...no way. Kid made a poor decision to run down the track and paid for it. Nobody wins in situations like these. Bad deal for the sport in every way

It's pretty much the same way with Robby Gordon, I met him once in the middle of the week right in front of the gas station/store at Ocotillo Wells, was getting gas & heard this bad ass engine idling up next to me, turned to look & out of this unbelievably built 2 seater (want to call it a trophy truck but theres no body per say) & BOOM its Robby & some other guy, we sat there for probably 20 mins shooting the shit, really nice guy. Yet he's percieved as being a major dick as well, in any event I don't think for a sec. that Tony intended snything I honestly dont think he even saw that kid...

Should have stayed in the car and fight it out in the pits afterword. Seems pretty simple to me

I don't watch Nascar or Sprint Cars and really don't give a shit who Tony Stewart is. This is why we park our apparatus at a 45 degree angle to oncoming traffic on the freeway while working a vehicle accident. I'm standing in the middle of the freeway with high visibility gear on and lights flashing and have still been buzzed by drivers while cutting someone out of a vehicle. This kid (although tragic) decided to get out of his car in a black suit, on a muddy track, in the dark.

It's sad for everyone involved. But the fact remains... if he would have stayed in his car, all of this could have been avoided.

I don't think he will race until the investigation is over, it would be bad publicity for him and his sponsors.

Three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart will find out no later than next week whether authorities will pursue charges in the death of a driver he struck during a sprint car race in upstate New York last month.
Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said Thursday that his office has completed its investigation and submitted it to the district attorney's office for review. He did not release the findings.
"The District Attorney's Office, which has been meeting throughout the investigative process with members of the Sheriff's Office, will make a statement late next week advising what action will be taken regarding the investigation," the statement said.

If he did or didn't the stupid ass kid shouldn't of walked on a race track. They guy who died was 100% in the wrong. Tony Stewart shouldn't be wasting his time with this.

some of this, a little of that

A hot headed 20 year old who thought he was invincible and learned the hard way he wasn't. It's sad but to spend the time and energy on a grand jury seems a bit ridiculous.

I doubt they found anything, this is about covering the ass of the police and DA. The grand jury is made up of every day people, it's harder for the media to accuse them of taking bribes or looking the other way for NASCAR. The elected officials have votes and campaign donations to worry about.
