so im driving home from the doctors office, thinking to myself that my 96 taco is awesome, and then boom, i throw her into nuetrel thinking the motor blew. when i look under the truck, no oil on the ground, but i notice my rear half of my rear drive shaft is gone. luckly my truck is 4x4, so i just threw it into 4x4 and drive home with the front wheels.

damage report: dent in gas tank, and bent up exhaust, and of course missing rear half of drive shaft.

so anyone have a rear half drive shaft they want to sell me?

ps: my bday is in two days- happy bday to me from taco.

    missing completely?

How about some pics? There should be some sheared bolts or something left from the explosion...

It would go a long way for those that will offer help..

Did the 4 bolts shear or back off ? Or did the flange assembly separate from the diff?

Did the center bolt that bolts the front half to the back half let go?

Let me know how much of the rear drive is still there. A picture would be awesome.

My x cab has a 2 piece rear drive shaft. It bolt thru the carrier bear ring. Are 96 trucks the same?

And you never noticed a thrumbing or vibration that went away under acceleration but came back when you coasted?

See how much a new tom woods shaft would run you. Remember with a used you never know what bearings may need to be replaced

As soon as you posted I knew that was happened. Did you recently get a new carrier bearing? Same thing happened to me. She this happens, there is a very small vibration. If you have aggressive tires most likely you would never notice it.
