Slightly washed out for my taste. Good photo that deserves a bit more contrast imo. Keep it BW.

White balance and greater contrast would be my choice.

I'm a fan of high-key style BW, myself. I would agree that the highlights in this are overcooked.

If you're going for the high-key look, try bringing up the mids and bring down the highs...then darken your lows. Should add a bit more contrast in the areas that really count.

Must my 2 cents; take it or leave it. :)

My first attempts at a bird in flight

Definitely need to work on getting the focus down and shutter speed... These are far from perfect but thought it was worth posting since the hawk had a mole or mouse in its talons!

Thanks dude, good for a first go I think. I felt like I was bird hunting or shooting trap  Gonna take some practice to nail the part of getting the moving bird in frame...

Haha, I just learned how to shoot/hunt earlier this year and I'm pretty sure my ability to track birds with a lens greatly improved after that :p

You'd be surprised how much of handling a rifle rolls over to photography. Especially building a steady shooting platform, breathing right, and leading your target, etc haha

I actually have a theory that photography would really help vet's get over old habits by replacing them with new, positive ones. It helped me a lot.

I think you did very well. Especially exposure wise-that's often hardest because of the relatively small target and massive blue sky.

Dinner is a huge bonus :D

I hope you don't mind me doing this. I just wanted to see them closer together to better compare.

i don't have the confidence to enter photo contests, but my agent wanted me to enter this shot, and while I wasn't good enough to make it to Professionals' podium, I managed to snag the People's Choice Award in the PDN "Faces" competition.

I should have slapped a TW sticker on the bumper. =P
