    Hi,

The Fuel door lock on my Tacoma stopped working. Can anyone tell me where to best get a new lock or another way I can fix this problem? I disassembled the lock so I could reliably fill the tank and my door swings open every time I park.

    Thanks for any help,

    C

I just used a magnet and put it on the interior of my gas tank door and it stayed shut... they are super easy to replace if you try to replace the lock cylinder

i'd measure it and go to either a locksmith and have him order one or a hardware store and look for a replacement

    Reviving an old thread here.

I have the same problem on my 98.

The tab is already broken so now the door just swings freely. Ive also seen that the 2001-2004 fuel doors are the same type/style as the 2nd gens. Has anybody tried putting this fuel door assembly on the pre 2001?

not to advance your old revival but the 01-04 has a plastic tab that the door latches on to (spring clip) so you could replace the entire door/interior filler piece (not the neck just the plastic piece)

Try getting a master key made and use that. $20 at dealership. Could be old key is worn and doesn't bring pins down and lock cylinder is fine.

I found having to unlock it every time was really annoying. 2 seconds to fix it.

Took door lock cylinder apart to clean tumblers and didn't notice where spring was. This is a pic of after I put it back together. Just wondering if anyone knows if this is the correct placement of the spring. Thanks.

Either does my 04. I use a locking gas cap. Although I've seen thieves just cut the fuel line and drain it that way in certain vehicles.
