Any of you on here go to the Summit in Ouray? How did your double cabs do on the switchbacks?

Which switchbacks? On Black Bear? If that is what you are referring to then it was not an issue. Needed a 3 point turn on most of them. A couple I cleared in one pass.

Excellent! Thank you. I've been torn between Tacoma, Wrangler 2 and 4 door, FJ, and 4 runner. The only one that can tow my Scout is the Tacoma 6 cylinder. I like to go on jeep trails around Ouray when we go camping there every summer. Otherwise, it's just the beach.

    Hey Guys,

I've messaged the FJ Summit Group a few times on Facebook but have not received a reply. I'm hoping some of you can speak up.

Other then the switchbacks on Black Bear, are there any trails in the area that are questionable for a Tacoma? I have a 2012 TRDOR, Slee sliders, ARB bumper, OME lift, 255's, etc. Other than my sliders I do not have any additional aftermarket undercarriage armor.

I'm planning on bringing my wife and daughters. Can you guys make some recommendations for lodging for a family of 4? http://fjsummit.org/lodging.php has a bunch listed.

Are there any other, more active FJ Summit Threads in TW that would be a better resource?

    Cheers,

    Salt

Stayed at the Matterhorn Motel in Ouray, 5-6 years ago. It was after Labor Day, price was reasonable, room was fine. Walking distance to eat/drink establishments.

I ride those trails every summer on a DR650. :headbang:

A couple of the switchbacks on Engineer pass are tight but still doable with a DCSB. The descent from Animas Forks into Ouray has some rock ledges that might be a little unnerving without sliders. I've seen Suburbans on Cinnamon and Ophir passes. The east side of Imogene has a couple of rock steps that require care, but again you're fine with sliders.

Stay away from Poughkeepsie Gulch  It is by far the nastiest trail in the area and I wouldn't try it with anything but a short wheelbase, lifted build (or a dirt bike :D). There are some mandatory winch points in the rock garden sections.

Don't do the passes alone  Having help when something goes bad is way more important at 13,000 feet.

Thanks guys. Avoid Poughkeepsei, check. I can't even pronounce it...so it should be easy to remember.

Anybody ever stayed at the Ouray Riverside Inn in the Black Bear Cabin? I booked it for my family. Should be fun!
