Had mine replaced last night. So far no issues, reception has also really increased as well.

My new Pioneer HU and ARC Audio amp and Image Dynamics speakers have been performing flawlessly as well. If the replacement radios work perfectly they can still never sound even a fraction as good as even a median upgrade to aftermarket HU and some decent speakers.

"So far" being the key words there. My replacement worked flawlessly for just short of four months - and now it's flaking out.

    Good luck though. ;)

well crap! my dealership just called and my radio is in. but now after reading the last few posts i'm not looking forward to it. you would think that the problem would be fixed BEFORE they started shipping replacement radios. I'd look into aftermarket HU but you just can't beat the looks of the factory radio and original surrounding piece.

It's because the replacements are actually refurbished units that somebody else had trouble with! At least that what someone in one of the other threads was told by his dealership. Don't know if that's absolutely true or not, but it sure would explain why so many of the replacements are defective as well.

I agree with you on the looks of the factory unit... I like it too... and honestly that's the only reason I didn't immediately go for an aftermarket unit when my original unit went bad. Now that my replacement has flaked too... I'm done. I'm not letting the dealership butcher my dash again.

Seven weeks and one day after my dealer ordered my replacement radio, I received a call that it had come in. Had it installed yesterday without incident. The service department did a fine job. Tested all functions before I left the dealership and everything is working. Drove 25 miles home and no problems. I don't notice any improvement in sound quality or volume settings. Sound quality is still mediocre and I still have to set the volume at a high number just to reach a comfortable listening level, especially with the iPod plugged in even though the iPod volume is set to maximum level. Anyway, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the replacement doesn't flake out or if it does, it does so under warranty.

Watching the radio display act up was amusing for a while and I thought about bringing it back in. But walking into the dealership with an intermittent issue ? I didn't want to waste my time and have smoke blown up my a$$. But I wanted working radio and a GPS in the truck anyway. I bought a Kenwood DNX7140. $950 with the $100 back wasn't a bad deal. I love it and it looks great. :)

The Toyota radio is made in Mexico by Delphi (now ex GM subsidiary). Subing out an OEM to a bankrupt company? And Delphi just assembles it, god knows where they bought the subassemblies. Maybe kenwood  hehehe

Well good luck to those who got a Toyota genuine replacement...

Access roll-up tonneau cover, Factory radio W/Sirius, Tailgate clamp, HID head lights, Stainless nerf bars.

Has anyone had any luck in collecting money from Toyota instead of radio replacement? Would be nice for Toyota to give cash for an aftermarket radio instead of the factory "problematics"

    Just a thought.

Toyota Corporate would never give compensation for a aftermarket radio to be installed. They would assume liability for an installation they do not control and if your truck burned to the ground from some shoddy installer, you would be suing Toyota.

Now a local dealer "may" be convinced but then liability is between you and the dealer.

Town and Country Toyota on s.blvd tried to do this to me as well - the problem started immediately after I bought my brand new truck. They told me that it's a known issue and they probably won't send a new one untill they resolve the problem. Luckily when you first buy your vehicle toyota's satifaction team contacts you a bunch. So I told them the issue - my radio was there the NEXT DAY!!!

I highly recommend calling the parts satifaction dept. I would leave the number if I had it on hand...

The radio in my new tacoma is the worst - I'm going to have one professionally installed - I mean geez... as much as I paid for this thing you'd think I could at least get a decent radio... this thing is total junk... I plug in my zune and can hear it but, on it's max setting with the radio also maxed it sounds like it's on a low volume setting..frikkin weak...

got my radio replaced and everything works fine now, sort of. questions...

why is the volume so low when i plug in my mp3 player. i put it on the max setting and it sounds like it's on low. what's the point of an input jack if it sounds like crap? is there some way to amplify it?

if i were to replace the factory radio, would it utilize the toyota input jack? or would it have it's own?

i think i better start reading in car stereo forums, i have a lot to learn!
