    Dennis, I think a part of it is going to be placebo. A kid has an impressionable mind and can be trained. Relate the smell to something she/he knows as "good" or "happy" and the effects will be instant. ;) good old mind tricks.
    And I keep the glue for when they won't keep their mouths shut.
