I bet they'll have play at 200+k. I had to replace on of mine. Do what is said, mine was bad it would move a good 2"s back and forth. It shouldn't really move much at all

check bj play by shaking the top and bottom of the wheel

tie rods, side to side

 

No top or bottom movement but both tires will wiggle to either side....just enough until the steering wheel hits its lock.

to be sure, try take it to a good alignment place. a good shop will always check for play since too much play=useless alignment

but sounds like you might need a new set

 

I think its normal, just checked the same thing on a brand new 2014 4runner and it does the same thing. No more play in it than mine. I think it is just the natural/normal play that the steering wheel has when in the locked position. I can get in the truck (with the keys out of the ignition, ignition is locked) and wiggle the steering wheel (only about an inch or so) from stop to stop while looking down at my wheels moving just as much as the steering wheel....

funny story about fire.... this use to be how long my beard was.....




then I jumped through a 7 foot tall bonfire.... burned up a big chunk of my beard.... now I am bad to the beginning and trying to grow my beard out...

The wheel shouldn't move when shaken side to side. If it does you have play in the tie rods

 

either.

But when I was working in the shop i just used to yank on the tie rod feeling for a little clunk type thing. Kinda the same as checking sway bar links

 

When you shake the wheel and you feel the little clunk its usually a wheel bearing, a bad wheel bearing.
