I'm surprised you didn't try to mod it.

    Looking for advice.
So I have an 05 access cab sport in excellent condition except of course the frame. Dont think it will need a new one but will probably get the coating applied. Dont want to deal with either . So my question to you guys is do I sell it / trade it / do the recall then sell or ?????? Thanks

My '01 RegCab got recalled on the frame. Did it in Dec 2013, was going to drive it for another 150k but ended up having to trade it for an '11 DC OR.
I put a bit more into it than I should have now looking back. But that was because I was going to keep it.
The dealer won't give you shit for doing the frame then trading it in. I was told that, cause I was trying to use it as a leverage point for a better trade.

Set it on fire, create an alibi and call your insurance company :D

Seriously though, if Toyota will replace the frame, let them do it. If they'll only undercoat it, then you have to decide whether it's worth trading or selling and taking on another car payment.

Unless I'm mistaken the coating is the first step...if you still end up with rust Toyota will replace the frame, right?

Given the number of components that Toyota has replaced on some of the trucks during the frame swap, it's almost like getting a complete refresh.

I would think that if you ended up going that route, you'd get another 5-7 solid years out of the truck (if not more) w/o having to worry about anything. If you truly wanted a new vehicle, take the money you'd save, bank it and make a huge downpayment on the next one.

It depends, if the frame is already weakened to the point where it's no longer consider sound, they can't undercoat it and give it back.

If you want to keep the truck, and if you don't want to deal with the dealer (at least for the CRC), you could do what I did, and take to Auto Rust Technicians down in Cranston RI. Their coating is much better than Toyota's, and Auto Rust actually gets rid of the rust by sand blasting. And you can get a full reimbursement from Toyota! Here is my thread if your interested:

I just traded in my 07 because I did not want to deal with rust and was not satisfied with Toyota's course of action. my frame was borderline and that crc was just a bandaid
