Just a note if you are going to have the dealership install new headlights and you have after market bulbs, make sure you tell them to use the old bulbs that were in your bubbled or cracked headlights. They almost threw away mine. Thankfully I got them and installed them tonight.

So here is what happened... Frank Toyota, more specifically Mike in Service, hooked me up. He knew I wanted smoked Chrome and Toyota Motor Corp followed procedures and sent them the all chrome headlights because of my VIN. Mike was able to convince his bosses boss to exchange the replacement headlights for the smoked ones for me. After an additional day of waiting, they did it. The original day I went in for the inspection, it took them 2.5 hours and nothing was done except for placing the order after a thorough inspection. When I went back today, I unfortunately had to wait 3 hours at the dealership. I'm still very excited about the whole exchange and it not costing me a dime except for a little bit of my time.
    THANK YOU MIKE.

Just got mine finished too. They accidentally ordered the sport ones. Had to order the others. Rushed them up.... 6 hours at the dealership and my truck looks like new. The offroad lights are darker than the sports.

I like the clear lense for the dtrl with the amber bulb. Makes it cleaner looking I think. I always hated the whole lense being orange.

I just bought a 2011 yesterday and noticed my lights are doing this.

Went in today to pick up a bed mat that they threw in and asked about my lights. The service guy punched my vin in and said there are no recalls....

What am I supposed to do to get this done?

It isn't a recall. Ask about the extended warranty light replacement. Check the first page for the numbers on it

I read that line too quickly and got an absurd image of a service guy with a short fuse.

With that said, and as others have suggested, print out a copy of the service bulletin and take it with you to the dealer. It's not a recall, so your search will yield no results on a recall-related VIN search site.

When I made my first inquiry to my dealer the service guy didn't know what I was talking about (or at least pretended not to). I showed him the bulletin, he made copies for distribution to his department, and a couple of days later my new headlights were ordered.

Make sure to check that your VIN number falls within the ranges listed in the bulletin.

When I was asking about it I mentioned I didn't know whether is was a recall, TSB, or what.

Anyways I just received a call from him and he looked into it. I just need to come in so they can look at the lights and confirm the defect.

I am wondering if they will indeed say they look bad enough. The lenses are faded, the DTRL lenses almost look like they are smoked an orangish color. And there are plastic flakes along the bottom of the housing on the inside that look like they have been sprinkled there.

I guess I'll try to take off from work early Monday so they can look at them.

Went to the dealer and waited almost 3 hours just for a wheel balance and them tell me my lights aren't going to be covered.

Looks like it's off to Amazon to buy some black ones.

Once they see they have been tampered with, they won't cover them. There is no way to undo the bhlm and make them seem like they haven't been touched.

Just prior to them releasing this newest TSB on the lights, the dealer installed my third set of new headights.

Original smoked sport ones lasted three years and the outside clear lenses were cracking DTRL were fine.

These were replaced with new oem parts, the second set melted the DTRL in under 18 months.

This newest set is the previously upgraded version. Guess time will tell if they last. Not sure I really care for the old style lens with the lines in it. The smooth outside lens has a really clean look to it.

These new ones, the turn lens has been completely redesigned. I believe it is actually glass now based on visual inspection and a noticable weight difference.

Getting my other headlight changed today... as I said before, it took a call to Toyota Corporate, to get a Case #, to get my dealer service manager to complete the TSB, which says replace BOTH lights even if just one is melted/ cracked. The TSB code is 3717JA

Of interest, the work order today said the non cracked light was being replaced free because it was 'discolored'... The only color issue was the original lens over the turn signals were amber and the new ones are clear with an amber bulb.

See my previous post. Looks like anyone is covered until November 2015. After that it's limited to 70k miles. Call your dealer. If I remember this afternoon, I'll post up the rest of the info they sent me with the sticker.
