larger tires have to rotate fewer times to cover the same distance as a smaller tire. so to cover the same distance in the sme amount of time as a smaller tire, your drivetrain rotates slower. so what you have to do is multiply your speed/miles/etc by a percentage increase to get the true values. stock tires have you spinning 2000 rpm somewhere between 65 and 70 mph on the speedometer. my speedometer still reads that speed, however, i have to multiply the speed i see by 1.12 (12% increase) to know my true speed. so if my speedometer reads 70 mph, i'm actually going 78.4 mph. regearing will bring the speedometer and power back closer to to stock.

So I'm taking you didn't so that whole jump a wire and get the perfect temp thing. I was thinking about just draining and refilling since I am at 86k now.

I change the fluid every 30k, but I have a manual, so it's a simple drain and fill.

I'm at 62k, I will do a flush soon since it's the only thing (and I mean only) that I've neglected maintenance wise.

correct, didn't do the wire jump or anything. main reason was becasue we were running out of time for the weekend and still had some other things to button up under the truck. i'll do a full flush sooner or later, but the fluid that came out was in great shape, so i'm not in too big of a rush. worst case, i can do another 3 quart drain and fill to dilute the old stuff even more to hold me over.

it's recommended at 100k I thought, so you haven't neglected anything yet.

well, the maintenance schedule does say to replace at 60k if you're driving while towing. it doesn't even mention when to replace if you're just driving mrs daisy. i've always heard 100k. that what I planned for.

ok cool, I couldn't really find a reason why getting the perfect temperature was so detrimental to the task. when I have done them before it was more along the lines of drive it and then let it cool down to where it wont burn the shit out of you and you are good to go.
thanks, I guess I will wait 15k more.

it's so important on this transmission because only at a certain temperature, does an overflow valve open and drain out excess fluid. if you don't do that, you won't know if it's over or underfilled.

There's a valve?? I thought it was nothing more then a tube at a specific height. Temp is important as the fluid height in the pan changes with temp.

As for interval, I thought that the updated info on-line shows that toyota changed it from 100k to 60k, even without the severe service sh-tuff.
