You'd be suprised. The rank doesn't come with the degree, though quite a few senior enlisted have bachelor's, masters and sometimes PhD level degrees.

Once you're in, you have to apply to go and become a warrant officer or officer; not all enlisted want to do that. So you may have some Staff Sgt that has a PhD in ... I dunno, business ... that has a side business booming but still doing his 20 for the military.

Personally, I think these guys are smarter in the long term than a lot of officers. I work in staff corps, so professional degrees (docs, lawyers, nurses, etc), but a lot of line officers think that their career field exists in the outside world, when it often doesn't.

for my career field as an officer, i would be required to have X number of bachelors or higher level communications credits. since all of mine were associates level and i wasnt going to simply do another bachelors, i decided to do the masters. it will definitely look better on the "resume" for being selected as an officer for sure. i would even go back enlisted if there were no slots opening in a timely manner.

    bwahahaha

there were folks i knew w/ bachelors and masters in other fields that were still enlisted. different lifestyle, but not bad by any means. officer is better pay while in and way better after retirement.

i think most of the charters can only do like 6 ppl at a time. has to do w/ licensing and all. we'd have to either rent a boat and hope for the best or know someone w/ a big enough boat.
