Like the title says... Almost immediately after I get back from my current deployment I'll be packing up and moving from Utah to Virginia, specifically the Newport News/Hampton area. I know my UT concealed carry permit is good, but are there any strange gun laws unique to VA?

once you buy a handgun.. cant buy another one for another 30 days.. unless you got a concealed weapons permit....uhhh.. in virginia beach if you get pulled over you have to declare you have a weapon..... not exactly sure what else

No CCW in any place that serves alcohol. But you can open carry there. I.e. Foodcourt at mall that serves beer - in mall concealed, eat in the court the gun must be visible.
One handgun every 30 days unless you have a CCW.
To buy an "assault weapon " (AR/AK/etc) you need proof of US citizenship like a passport, birthcert or voter reg card.
Don't drive to DC, NYC or MA with your guns.

    I'll be at Langley AFB...

Thanks for the info, I'd read up a little on the local laws... the alcohol situation is an odd one, but I can live with it.

I would think that in any state, if you have a run in with law enforcement, you're required to inform them that you're carrying. I know that's the case in MI.

Nothing I found out about. Don't need to declare your long guns. For CCW you just need to show proof that you've taken a gun safety course (I assume the AF can help with that), pay the fee. I don't carry, but have fun playing.

Don't know where in the area you can shoot much. Camp Allen (Norfolk)has a range for military folks, fairly cheap. You can rent from them too.

Welcome to the area. The geography and traffic are bitches. I'm down on the Norfolk side of things.
