"Other" grill treatments

I've been browsing with interest some of the grill mods here on the forums. It appears it's very popular to replace the chrome with the color-keyed grill surround and to do grill inserts.

My question is whether anyone is doing any other treatment, e.g. modding just the crossbars or whatever. Would love to see some pics of what people are doing.

I made one where I fiberglassed in the side triangle pieces so it was completely smooth. It was a spare grille I had so I figured I'd give it a shot. What do you have in mind? Something you want to try?

 

Nothing in particular. I'm just exploring ideas. I'm taking delivery of a TRD Sport (magnetic gray) tomorrow and, when I went to inspect it today, the brown (or whatever) crossbars on the grille bugged me. It seems they should be either color-keyed or black. So, I've been thinking of what I can do to stop my obsession about this.

 

there is a member over on XRU that just did the Satoshi (RGM) mod in billet...

its not a full recessed grille mod...its about half way...

 

Same truck is over here too...I posted it over there for him. Since posting it up there is one guy on here that is recessing his all the way back, I think he has a chrome grille surround. And another member on xru just recessed his all the way on his speedway blue.

TR3NT and I now need to figure out how to mount the side triangles recessed so he can be the first with that done using billet.

billet recessed triangles (BRT) will be a lot harder to do then mesh...I bent my mesh around the triangle lips on the back side of the grill so it sits flush and snug...just gotta use some epoxy and it'll be set...but you already know I gotta powdercoat the mesh 1st to match...

I was thinking maybe use a metal l bracket would work...epoxy it or fiberglass it to the backside of the grille...use the l brackets with holes in them that way you can use screw and bolt or zip ties to hold the billet recessed in place...just a though...

 

I've got a flush mounted billet grill painted black in my color keyed surround on my Sport.

I've thought about going to all black- Black Head light mod, Black flush mount mesh, black surround, and maybe the black XR valence look too....I'm not sold on it yet tho....

Yeah...I'm more not sold on the whole black front thing. If I do it...I'll do the whole thing black...Gotta replace my passenger mirror first.

you also gotta keep in mind the XR has the body kit and side skirts straight from the factory...with the body kit on the front bumper the evo mod looks a lot thicker then it would on your truck...

since you got a RR 4x4...look at this picture and tell me what you think...

this guy has a magnetic grey DC tacoma 4x4...the evo mod doesn't look too thick on his truck...the black and grey theme look TITS here...


granted he did paint his skid plate black and make his own custom TRD silve logo...but you get the idea...

that would be this guy. i have since painted the surround to match the body. going to be either painting or powder coating the billet black in the very near future...

 

any chance i can get a black sand pear grill somewhere....any ideas
