I don't know, maybe my eyes just deceive me but the wheels/tires make the stock OR TRD seem more "solid" looking and stick out a bit further than the stock SR5, but then again I may be looking at a different stock model than the SR5. Not entirely sure.

This is perfect actually because we have the same truck, except mine is SR5 Prerunner. Were your stock tires 265?

I believe so? Not in front of me so can't really check. Maybe it's the rims that throws it off for me. Or it could just be all in my head :)

Yep, that's them. Maybe its the Prerunner look, as opposed to the stock SR5 I am thinking of. Not prerunner to prerunner.

That's so true for me. I personally wouldn't buy a lifted truck or a souped up sports car knowing what I know. You all can disagree with my statement but I'm standing behind it.

Yep. If that stock truck with highway tires has a frame full of dried mud, probably wasn't grandpappy's old church going truck like the dealer tells you it was. But this is why I don't buy used cars, you never actually know and I don't want that liability

Though not the only factor in my decision to lift the truck, aesthetics/proportions were definitely a motivation.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
Not really a lift...I had the dealer do the 4 leaf "recall" and am pulling bilsteins at 1.85 this weekend to level. I live in the national forest and drive down dirt and gravel roads on a daily basis...

As for big lifts on mall crawlers, spend your money on makes you happy!!!

I have a mid travel setup about to go on this weekend, I'm afraid of vibrations but I think it'll look better and the bigger tires with deeper tread will fair better in snow...had to lift it to fit 285/75r16 and may as well go coilovers right?! ;)

At least 90%, maybe closer to 95%. I tried to find info about offroading with lifts and found every thread was clusterfucked with people that don't offroad much at all, just wanted to look aggressive.

I think it has to do with the Bilstein shocks, the pre-runner has the same suspension as a TRD-OR so not really any difference with a pre-runner.

An SR5 non pre-runner or a base model has a totally different stance, they sit lower to the ground and have smaller wheels. I should have referenced "SR5 Non Pre-Runner" instead of just "SR5".

It's a big red flag to me! I would never buy a lifted or significantly modified used truck. I don't think I know anyone who would either.

I would buy a new one with a factory warranty, that I was sure was never beat or abused though.

It amazes me some of the arguments here. Half the people on this site have lifted trucks and most take uber care of them better than the average joe and rarely offroad them. Almost if not more than half of the members have bought a lift or want one. Take a look at the 2nd gen's for sale page, the lifted trucks are more $ than the non lifted. Search through autotrader and type in keyword lift, I guarantee there is a markup on the lifted ones over stock used or new. Yes any modification can decrease your resale value. But lifted trucks are popular, there is a demand for them already lifted used and new and people will pay more for it, the market proves that. Any used vehicle could have red flags or issues, but most people buying used will take the condition and mitigate the risks. But whatever Im sure I'll get a gazzillion replies to why Im wrong, etc. etc.

People are asking more, sure, but are they actually getting it? Look at how long some of those modified 2nd Gens sit on here for sale, and how often they get bumped up with price reductions. What comments do you see on the threads? Usually stuff like "This is a STEAL! Whoever gets this is getting an awesome truck for the money!" and "Bro, if I wasn't XXXX miles away, I'd buy it today!". But do people actually buy them for that? More often than not, no.

Personally, I would never buy a lifted truck, but that's just me. And just a thought - but maybe the reason you get a lot of replies telling you that you're wrong is because, in fact, you might actually be wrong?
