Score! Any specific reason you went GB as opposed to a Wetterlings or Hultafors Bruks?

Yeah, same basic model. Different design on the pan/pot supports, but same basic unit. I got mine in jr. high (back then they cost $35), and I just put new gaskets in it two seasons ago because I realized that it was 15 years old and I hadn't done it yet.
I've got a dual burner that I take glamping or truck/canoe camping that I got at a yard sale for $10. I put a rebuild kit and it was like brand new. According to the date stamped on the side tabs it's from 1967
    Looks like this one:

Mostly brand reputation. I asked if they carried wetterlings because I wanted to compare, but they didn't, so I didn't. When you get past the $70 mark, you might as well buy the very best in my opinion. I love the weight and balance of the GB - if the steel lives up to its reputation, I'll be happy with it. How does the old saying go? I'm rarely disappointed when spending too much, but I'm often disappointed when spending too little.

I've only been into axes for the past 2 years, but I've only seen 2 lemons from GB. Both were heat treat problems, so you may find out quickly with some use if yours is good to go. Have you seen the video showing them being produced? Pretty badass.

Are you planning on using it as a camping axe, an around-the-house axe....??

Nice to see another Mora user here, they're cheap knives for sure, but hold an edge well and I don't get upset if they wander off.

Camping mostly. I have a Gerber camp axe that I've used a lot but I've wanted a GB SF axe for a long time. When I had some downtime in Anchorage this week, I looked up GB retailers and found a nice selection at Northern Knives on 5th street. I jumped at the chance to inspect the axe before I bought it, and AK has no sales tax so that was a bonus.

I've not seen that - thanks for posting. Pretty neat that they do it all on one auto hammer.

Welcome. Fun to see it, I figured, now you can see where the forge marks come from.

Yeah, everybody's like "Hublublub Carbon steel instead of stainless in a car blurpblurpblurp" :goingcrazy: when I tell them that it's in my GHB, but I wipe a film of oil onto it every six months when I oil the spare mag for my CCW and swap out the food & water, and there's no rust on it yet.
Plus the carbon steel in the Mora takes a fresh edge a lot faster from my fieldstone than any of my stainless knives do.

Nice! No tax FTW! One of the bonuses of living next door to NH, for me.
I'd love a Gransfors, but haven't been able to swallow the price tag on one yet. Especially when I've got a nice antique Warren Axe (Old Faithful model) that I found covered in rust under an old camp a few years ago. I set it in a homemade electro-bubbler for a couple weeks to convert the rust, sanded it, oiled it, and rehafted it and I've been using it for camping and hunting ever since.
I've got a 16 inch Boy Scout handle on it, but I do find myself occasionally wanting something slightly longer, hence the longing for a Gransfors.

Do you have any pics I can drool over?

I forced a patina on my carbon Mora over a year ago and haven't oiled it once. Their Sandvik stainless sharpens pretty good, but a bit more work. Scandi edge probably helps since its pretty easy to sharpen anyway. But never had a problem with my dry carbon blade and I'm half an hour from the ocean.

Bought my Mora #2 from him. His custom-designed machete's pretty cool; if I didn't already have 3 :)o)I'd consider buying one.

Seems wrong to take photos of an axe without some timber in there, but it's 95 degrees out today, so I had to settle for some quick pics.

Yeah, another  for Northern Knives - the guy there is sending me a different sheath because the strap is slightly long. We figured it was switched out with another model's sheath when someone was comparing models. If it never shows up, I'll stick a Chicago screw through it to shorten the strap up behind the head.

Yup, they're all listed in the axe book that comes with it. It's a pretty cool little book. I chuckled when I came across the 2 page summary of how to build a log cabin.
